2012–13 Los Angeles Kings Season
The 2012–13 Los Angeles Kings season was the 46th season (45th season of play) for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. The regular season was reduced from its usual 82 games to 48 due to the 2012–13 NHL lockout. The team's attempt to defend their first Stanley Cup championship in franchise history was ended by the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Finals. Western Conference (NHL)
The Western Conference (french: Conférence de l'Ouest) is one of two conferences in the National Hockey League (NHL) used to divide teams. Its counterpart is the Eastern Conference. History Originally named the Clarence Campbell Conference (or Campbell Conference for short), it was created in 1974 when the NHL realigned its teams into two conferences and four divisions. Because the new conferences and divisions had little to do with North American geography, geographical references were removed. The conferences and divisions were re-aligned in 1981 to better reflect the geographical locations of the teams, but the existing names were retained with the Campbell Conference becoming the conference for the NHL's westernmost teams. The injured reserve list ( IR list) is a designation used in North American professional sports leagues for athletes who suffer injuries and become unable to play. The 2007–08 Los Angeles Kings season was the 41st season (40th season of play) for the National Hockey League franchise. Their season began with the team playing a neutral site home-and-home series with the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks at the O2 Arena in London, England, the first time the NHL has held a regular season game in Europe. The 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs of the National Hockey League (NHL) began on April 30, 2013, following the conclusion of the 2012–13 NHL regular season. The regular season was shortened to 48 games, and the playoffs pushed to a later date, due to a lockout. The playoffs ended on June 24, 2013, with the Chicago Blackhawks defeating the Boston Bruins in six games to win the Stanley Cup.
