2012 World Senior Curling Championships
The 2012 World Senior Curling Championships were held at the Tårnby Curling Club in Tårnby, Denmark from April 14 to 21. Tårnby has previously hosted the 2006 World Senior Curling Championships, the 2011 European Mixed Curling Championship, and the 2011 European Curling Championships' Group C competitions, and hosted the 2012 European Junior Curling Challenge. Tårnby
Tårnby () is a town in Denmark, the seat of Tårnby Municipality in the Capital Region of Denmark. It is located approximately south of central Copenhagen on the island of Amager. Neighbouring settlements include the Copenhagen suburb of Sundbyvester to the north and Kastrup to the south. Copenhagen Airport is situated to the east of Tårnby. It includes the islets Saltholm and Peberholm. History There's no clear date for the founding of Tårnby, but archaeological expeditions prior to the building of the Øresund Bridge suggest that the first traces of Tårnby originated around the 12th century around a farm from which the village grew. In the 16th century, Danish King Christian II invited Dutch settlers to Amager. That made Tårnby, like the neighbouring city of Dragør, also have some traces of Dutch history and culture. Keith Prentice (curler)
Keith Prentice (February 21, 1940 – September 27, 1992) was an American TV, film and stage actor, whose most famous role was the part of Larry in both the original stage and film versions of '' The Boys in the Band''. He also appeared on the TV soap ''Dark Shadows'' during the series' final months in 1971. For a number of years, his picture was displayed on the Taster's Choice coffee label. Prentice studied in New York City at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His stage musical credits include '' Sail Away'', ''The Sound of Music'', '' Paint Your Wagon'', and ''The King and I''. In 1968, he appeared off-Broadway in the play ''The Boys in the Band'', a once controversial play featuring gay characters at a dramatic birthday party the Summer before the Stonewall riots. Hans Frauenlob
Hans Frauenlob (born November 22, 1960) is a retired New Zealand curler originally from Barrie, Ontario. Career Frauenlob moved to New Zealand in around 1995, settling in Auckland. Before moving to New Zealand, he worked as a computer expert for the Toronto Blue Jays for six years, and was awarded with the team's World Series winning rings when the team won in 1992 and 1993. He was able to acquire New Zealand citizenship because his mother was born there. After moving to New Zealand, he worked for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. In 1997 Frauenlob was selected to represent New Zealand in their Men's curling team. Frauenlob played most of his career as third for skip Sean Becker. With Becker, Frauenlob won three Pacific Curling Championships in , , and . He also won the Pacific Curling Championships in as second under skip Dan Mustapic. 2012 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
The 2012 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship was held at the Milli Piyango Curling Arena in Erzurum, Turkey from April 23 to 29. Erzurum previously hosted the 2011 Winter Universiade, during which the Milli Piyango Curling Arena was used for the curling competition. Among the previous hosts of the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships, Turkey is the nation with the least experience in curling; its curling federation joined the World Curling Federation in 2009. For the first time since 2009, the event was not held in conjunction with the same year's World Senior Championships. Switzerland won its fourth title in five years, defeating Sweden in the final with a score of 7–6. The 2012 European Junior Curling Challenge was held from January 3 to 8 at the Tårnby Curling Club in Copenhagen, Denmark. The challenge consisted of nations that have not already qualified for the World Junior Championships. 2006 World Senior Curling Championships
The 2006 World Senior Curling Championships were held from March 4 to 11 at the Tårnby Curling Club in Copenhagen, Denmark. Group A of each gender consisted of the best ranked countries from the previous year. The three best teams of the A-groups advanced to the semi-finals as well as the winner of the B-groups. The top ranked team in A will play against the top ranked team in B, the winner went on to the gold medal game and the loser went on to the bronze medal game.
