2012 World Junior Curling Championships
The 2012 World Junior Curling Championships was held from March 3 to 11 at the Z-Hallen in Östersund, Sweden. Östersund previously hosted the World Junior Curling Championships in 1999 and in 2008. In the men's final, Canada's Brendan Bottcher defeated Sweden's Rasmus Wranå in eight ends with a score of 10–4. Scotland's Kyle Smith secured the men's bronze medal with a 7–3 win over Norway's Markus Høiberg. In the women's final, Scotland's Hannah Fleming defeated the Czech Republic's Zuzana Hájková in an extra end with a score of 6–5. Russia's Anna Sidorova won over Sweden's Sara McManus in nine ends to win the women's bronze medal with a score of 7–4. Östersund
Östersund (; sma, Staare) is an urban area (city) in Jämtland in the middle of Sweden. It is the seat of Östersund Municipality and the capital of Jämtland County. World Junior Curling Championships
The World Junior Curling Championships are an annual curling bonspiel featuring the world's best curlers who are 21 years old or younger. The competitions for both men and women occur at the same venue. The men's tournament has occurred since 1975 and the women's since 1988. Since curling became an Olympic sport in 1998, the World Junior Curling Championship of the year preceding the Olympic Games have been held at the site of the curling tournament for the upcoming Games. The event has its origins in the International Junior Masters Bonspiel which began in 1968 and was held annually at the East York Curling Club. Ma Xiuyue
Ma Xiuyue (; born May 21, 1991) is a Chinese curler from Harbin. He won a bronze medal at the 2015 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships and represented China at the 2022 Winter Olympics, skipping the men's curling team. Career Ma represented China twice at the World Junior Curling Championships in 2011 and 2012. On both occasions, his team finished with a 4–5 record. Also in 2011 and 2012, Ma won back-to-back Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships. Ma skipped the Chinese team at the 2013 Winter Universiade. The 2012 Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Championships were held from January 27 to February 2 in Jeonju City, South Korea. The Pacific Junior Championships acted as the Pacific Zone qualifiers for the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. The teams competed in a double round robin, and the top three teams moved on to the playoffs. 2013 European Junior Curling Challenge
The 2013 European Junior Curling Challenge was held from January 3 to 8 at the Curling Hall Roztyly in Prague, Czech Republic. Nations in the Europe zone that have not already qualified for the World Junior Curling Championships participated in the curling challenge. The top finishers of each tournament will advance to the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships in Sochi, Russia. In the men's tournament, Italy regained a spot in the World Junior Championships after a last place finish at last year's worlds with a win over Denmark. Sander Rølvåg
Sander Olav Rølvåg (born 4 August 1990 in Sandnessjøen, Norway) is a Norwegian curler from Oslo. Career Rølvåg represented Norway as a skip at the biennal European Youth Olympic Festival in 2009, winning bronze. In 2011 he was a part of the team that secured a bronze medal at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships. Rølvåg has represented Norway at the European Curling Championships as an alternate on two occasions, in the 2014 European Curling Championships and the 2015 European Curling Championships. In 2015 he won the gold medal at the 2015 Winter Universiade and won the inaugural 2015 World Mixed Curling Championship. Jocelyn Peterman
Jocelyn Andrea Peterman (born September 23, 1993) is a Canadian curler from Calgary, Alberta. She currently plays second for the Kaitlyn Lawes rink. Career Juniors Peterman and her team of Brittany Tran, Becca Konschuh and Kristine Anderson won a silver medal skipping Alberta at the 2011 Canada Winter Games, losing to British Columbia's Corryn Brown in the final. The next season, the team represented Alberta at the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships. They won the event, defeating Manitoba's Shannon Birchard rink in the national final. This qualified the team to represent Canada at the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. After posting a 6–3 round robin record, the team lost to Russia's Anna Sidorova in a tie-breaker match, thus failing to make the playoffs. Sara McManus (born 13 December 1991) is a Swedish curler from Gävle. She currently plays third on Team Anna Hasselborg. With the Hasselborg rink, she won the gold medal in women's curling at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career McManus was the alternate for the Swedish team at the 2009 and 2010 World Junior Curling Championships. The team, which was skipped by Anna Hasselborg, finished in sixth place in 2009 and won the gold medal in 2010. While McManus was listed as an alternate, the team acted as a five-player team, with McManus throwing lead rocks in most of the team's games.
