The 2012 Sporting Kansas City season was the seventeenth season of the team's existence in Major League Soccer and the second year played under the Sporting Kansas City moniker. Overview Preseason Late 2011 Preparations for the 2012 Major League Soccer season began only a day after the 2011 MLS Cup. On November 21, 2011, Ryan Smith was traded to Chivas USA for 1st and 3rd round draft picks in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft. Later the same day, all MLS teams were required to submit a list of 11 protected players for the 2011 MLS Expansion Draft to be held for the newly formed Montreal Impact. The club chose to protect Davy Arnaud, Matt Besler, Teal Bunbury, Aurélien Collin, Roger Espinoza, Kei Kamara, Chance Myers, Jimmy Nielsen, Júlio César, C. J. Sapong, and Graham Zusi. Craig Aaron Rocastle (born 17 August 1981) is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. A former youth team player at Queens Park Rangers, he joined Kingstonian from Gravesend and Northfleet in 2001. He signed with Chelsea via Slough Town in 2003, and was loaned out to Barnsley, Lincoln City, and Hibernian. Miloš Stojčev (; born 19 January 1987) is a Serbian professional footballer who plays for Grafičar Beograd as a midfielder. Scott Lorenz
Scott Lorenz (born June 23, 1987) is an American soccer player. Career College and amateur Lorenz attended Barrington High School. At Barrington he played on both the soccer and volleyball teams. Playing volleyball he won all-area and all-conference honors. He also played club soccer for FC 96ers and the Chicago Sockers before playing college soccer at the University of Wisconsin. At UW he was twice named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, as a junior in 2008 and as a senior in 2009, and finished his collegiate career with 14 goals in 71 appearances for the Badgers. Seth Sinovic (; born January 28, 1987) is an American former soccer player. He most recently played as a left back for the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. Career College and amateur Sinovic grew up in Leawood, Kansas to parents of Croatian descent, and attended Rockhurst High School, and played college soccer at Creighton University from 2006 to 2009. Graham Jonathan Zusi (; born August 18, 1986) is an American professional soccer player who currently plays as a midfielder or defender for Major League Soccer club Sporting Kansas City. Jimmy Nielsen (born 6 August 1977) is a Danish-American retired footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Until June 2007, he played 398 games for Danish team AaB Fodbold. Playing every league match for AaB since 1997, Nielsen won the 1999 Danish Superliga championship with AaB. Nielsen has on occasion featured in the Danish national team setup as an unused substitute. Chance Russell Myers (born December 7, 1987, in Thousand Oaks, California) is an American former association football, soccer player. Career College and amateur Myers attended Thousand Oaks High School, and played college soccer at UCLA from 2006 to 2007.
