2012 Salford City Council Election
The 2012 Salford City Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Salford City Council in England. One third of the council was up for election with councillors elected in 2008 Salford Council election defending their seats. Vote shares are calculated against the previous election to the corresponding seat. There was also an election for mayor, and other local elections on the same date. Salford () is a city and the largest settlement in the City of Salford metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, England. In 2011, Salford had a population of 103,886. It is also the second and only other city in the metropolitan county after neighbouring Manchester. Salford is located in a meander of the River Irwell which forms part of its boundary with Manchester. The former County Borough of Salford, which also included Broughton, Pendleton and Kersal, was granted city status in 1926. In 1974 the wider Metropolitan Borough of the City of Salford was established with responsibility for a significantly larger region. Historically in Lancashire, Salford was the judicial seat of the ancient hundred of Salfordshire. Paul Dennett
Paul Dennett is a Labour Party politician who is the current elected Mayor of the City of Salford and the Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester, England. Early life Dennett was born in Warrington and grew up working class. His father worked for a power station and was an active trade unionist and his mother was a housewife and house cleaner. His parents would later run The Engine Pub in Prescot, Merseyside. He attended Park Road Primary School and Great Sankey High School, before working in customer services at a BT call centre. He received a BA in International Business from the University of Ulster, an MSc in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from the Manchester Business School, and an MRES in Social Sciences from Manchester Metropolitan University.
