2012 Portland Timbers Season
The 2012 Portland Timbers season was the 2nd season for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top flight professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. The season ended with a 1–1 tie with San Jose on October 27, an MLS record of 8-10-16, and elimination from the MLS Cup at 8th place in the western conference and 17th in the overall MLS regular season standings. The Timbers won the 2012 Cascadia Cup with a record of 3-1-2 against Seattle and Vancouver. Including all previous teams in the area to bear the "Timbers" name, this is the 26th season in the history of the Portland Timbers franchise. The Portland Timbers are an American professional men's soccer club based in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The Timbers have played their home games at Providence Park since 2011, when the team began play as an expansion team in the league. The club was founded in 2009, when the city of Portland was awarded an expansion berth to Major League Soccer. The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States. Sometimes called the American soccer pyramid, teams and leagues are not linked by the system of promotion and relegation typical in soccer elsewhere. Jorge Perlaza
Jorge Isaacs Perlaza Aguiño (born 11 October 1985) is a Colombian footballer. Club career Colombia Perlaza began his professional career in 2001 with Atlético Huila debuting with the club as a 16-year-old. In 2002, he moved to Deportes Quindío and played primarily with the reserve side. During the middle of the 2002 season Perlaza joined Deportivo Pasto and began to receive more playing time appearing in 34 matches and scoring his first two goals as a professional. In 2004, he rejoined Quindio and had a breakthrough season in 2006 scoring 8 goals in 26 matches. His play for Quindio led him to be called to the national team. In 2007, he joined Deportes Tolima and continued his fine play. Perlaza was one of the top scorers in the 2010 Liga Postobon II scoring 10 goals as he helped Tolima qualify to the 2011 Copa Libertadores. Chinedu "Bright" Dike (born 2 February 1987) is a retired footballer who played as a forward. Born in the United States, he represented the Nigeria national team. Career College and amateur Born in Edmond, Oklahoma, Dike attended Edmond North High School, and played college soccer at the University of Notre Dame from 2005 to 2009, redshirting his junior season in 2007. As a senior, he started all 21 games for the Irish, led the team in goals (12) and total points (29), and was named to the all-Big East Championship team. Daniel Phillip Keat (born 28 September 1987) is a former New Zealand footballer who played as a midfielder. Amateur career His hometown is Lower Hutt, where he attended Hutt International Boys' School in Upper Hutt and was named Sportsman of the Year in 2004 and 2005.
