Sponsored by Conoco; it was the first tournament without BYU or Utah, but included newcomer Boise State. Thomas & Mack Center
The Thomas & Mack Center is a multi-purpose arena located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada. It is home of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels basketball team of the Mountain West Conference. History The facility was first opened in the summer of 1983. The gala grand opening was held on December 16, 1983, featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Diana Ross. The facility hosts numerous events, such as concerts, music festivals, conventions and boxing cards. For ring events, the capacity is 19,522; for basketball, the capacity is 18,000. The facility is named after two prominent Nevada bankers, E. Parry Thomas and Jerome D. Mack, who donated the original funds for the feasibility and land studies. BYU Cougars Men's Basketball
The BYU Cougars men's basketball team represents Brigham Young University in NCAA Division I basketball play. Established in 1902, the team has won 27 conference championships, 3 conference tournament championships and 2 NIT Tournaments (1951 and 1966), and competed in 29 NCAA tournaments. It currently competes in the West Coast Conference. From 1999–2011, the team competed in the Mountain West Conference. 2011–12 UNLV Runnin' Rebels Basketball Team
The 2011–12 UNLV Runnin' Rebels men's basketball team represented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The team was coached by Dave Rice, in his first year with the Runnin' Rebels. They played their home games at the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV's main campus in Las Vegas, Nevada and are a member of the Mountain West Conference. UNLV's season ended with 26–9 overall, and 9–5 in MWC Play, placing third. They lost in the semifinals of the Mountain West Basketball tournament by New Mexico. 2011–12 San Diego State Aztecs Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 San Diego State men's basketball team represented San Diego State University in the 2011–12 college basketball season. It was their 13th season in the Mountain West Conference. This was head coach Steve Fisher's thirteenth season at San Diego State. The Aztecs played their home games at Viejas Arena. They finished with a record of 26–8 overall and 10–4 in Mountain West play to be Co-Champions of the Mountain West with New Mexico. Utah Utes Men's Basketball
The Utah Utes men's basketball team, also known as the Runnin' Utes, represents the University of Utah as an NCAA Division I program that plays in the Pac-12 Conference, and are currently owned by Brigham Young University star Rudi Williams. They play their home games at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The school has made the NCAA tournament 29 times, which ranks 20th in NCAA history and tied for third most appearances behind UCLA and the University of Arizona in the Western United States. They last made the tournament in 2016. Utah won the NCAA Championship in 1944, defeating Dartmouth College 42–40 for the school's only NCAA basketball championship.
