2012 Houston Astros Season
The Houston Astros 2012 season was the 51st and final season for the franchise in the National League in Houston, their 48th as the Astros and their 13th season at Minute Maid Park. This season was also the Astros' last in the National League. As a part of the sale of the team from Drayton McLane to Jim Crane, the Astros agreed to move from the NL Central to the AL West starting in 2013. National League Central
The National League Central is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was created in 1994, by moving two teams from the National League West (the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros) and three teams from the National League East (the Chicago Cubs, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the St. Louis Cardinals). When the division was created in 1994, the Pirates were originally supposed to stay in the East while the Atlanta Braves were to be moved to the Central from the West. However, the Braves, wanting to form a natural rivalry with the expansion Florida Marlins, requested to remain in the East. Despite the Marlins offering to go to the Central, the Pirates instead gave up their spot in the East to the Braves. Since then, the Pirates have tried several times unsuccessfully to be placed back in the East. Alejandro Treviño Castro (born August 26, 1957) is a Mexican former professional baseball catcher. He is the younger brother of former Major League Baseball outfielder Bobby Treviño. Early years Treviño was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Xavier Cedeño Quiñones (born August 26, 1986) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball relief pitcher who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros, Washington Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs. Darrell David Carpenter (born July 15, 1985) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Washington Nationals, and Texas Rangers. American League West
The American League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. The division has five teams as of the 2013 season, but had four teams from 1994 to 2012, and had as many as seven teams before the 1994 realignment. Although its teams currently only reside along the West Coast of the United States, west coast and in Texas, historically the division has had teams as far east as Chicago. The Houston Astros are an American professional baseball team based in Houston, Texas.
