2012 Essendon Football Club Season
The 2012 Essendon Football Club season is the club's 114th season in the Australian Football League (AFL). After a promising start to the season Essendon found themselves second on the ladder with a record of 8 wins and 1 loss (which was by a single point). The season then took an unexpected turn which saw Essendon lose 10 out of the last 13 games and miss the finals. They became the first club to have an 8–1 record and miss finals since Melbourne in the 1971 season. Prior to the final round vice captain Mark McVeigh announced his retirement from football after 14 season and 232 games at the club. After the Home and Away season completed Essendon captain Jobe Watson was awarded the Brownlow Medal. The highest individual accolade in the AFL. Essendon Football Club
The Essendon Football Club, nicknamed the Bombers, is a professional Australian rules football club. The club plays in the Australian Football League (AFL), the game's premier competition. The club was formed by the McCracken family in their Ascot Vale, Victoria, Ascot Vale home "Alisa", and while the exact date is unknown, it is generally accepted to have been in 1872. The club’s first recorded game took place on 7 June 1873 against a Carlton Second 20. From 1878 until 1896, the club played in the Victorian Football Association then joined seven other clubs in October 1896 to form the breakaway Victorian Football League (later changed to AFL in 1990). Headquartered at the Essendon Recreation Ground, known as Windy Hill, from 1922 to 2013, the club moved to The Hangar in near Tullamarine in late 2013 on land owned the Melbourne Airport. Joshua Jenkins (born 8 February 1989) is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He last played for the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He previously played for the Adelaide Football Club from 2012 to 2019 and was on the Essendon Football Club's list in 2011 without playing a senior game. Basketball career As a junior Jenkins mainly played basketball and was a development player with the Townsville Crocodiles in the Australian National Basketball League (Australasia), National Basketball League. Mark Baguley
Mark Baguley (born 21 May 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Baguley played local footy with Langwarrin before joining Frankston in 2009 as a 21-year-old. He played there for three seasons, coming second in their best and fairest in 2011. He was recruited as a mature-age rookie by Essendon with pick 47 in the 2012 rookie draft. In July 2012 he was elevated to the senior list. He debuted in round 16 against at AAMI Stadium. Western Australian Football League
The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. South Fremantle Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in Fremantle, Western Australia. The club plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) and the WAFL Women's (WAFLW), commonly going by the nickname the ''Bulldogs''. Cory Dell'Olio
Cory Dell'Olio (born 8 December 1989) is an Australian rules football player who last played for the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League, before he was delisted at the end of the 2014 season. He was recruited with pick #29 in the 2011 Rookie Draft, having played as a small forward for the South Fremantle Football Club in the WAFL. Prior to round 4 of the 2012 AFL season he was elevated to the senior list to replace Brent Prismall who was on the long-term injury list with an ACL injury. He made his debut that weekend against , starting the game as the substitute player and replacing Michael Hurley in the third quarter. He was delisted by Essendon at the end of the 2014 season after only playing three games in 2013 and five in 2014. He returned to South Fremantle the following year.
