2012 Conference USA Football Season
The 2012 Conference USA football season was an NCAA football season that was from August 2012 through January 2013. Conference USA consists of 12 football members separated into 2 divisions: East Carolina, Marshall, Memphis, Southern Miss, UAB, UCF make up the eastern division, while Houston, Rice, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTEP comprise the western division. The 2012 football season marks the 18th season of the conference's existence and 17th of football competition; although C-USA was established in 1995, it did not begin football competition until 1996. In addition, the season will be the last to feature participation from Houston, Memphis, SMU and UCF, as the four schools intend to leave the conference for the American Athletic Conference on July 1, 2013. The NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, is the highest level of college football in the United States. The FBS consists of the largest schools in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). As of 2022, there are 10 conferences and 131 schools in FBS. College football is one of the most popular spectator sports throughout much of the United States. The top schools generate tens of millions of dollars in yearly revenue. The 2011 Houston Cougars football team (also known as the Houston Cougars, Houston, or UH) represented the University of Houston in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The 2011 Conference USA Football Championship Game was played on December 3, 2011 at Robertson Stadium in Houston between Southern Miss and Houston—the winners of Conference USA's East and West Divisions, respectively. Under C-USA rules, the championship game is hosted by the division champion with the best conference record. The 2011 Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team represented the University of Southern Mississippi in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season.
