2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament
The 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) was a postseason single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams, up from 24 teams in the 2011 CIT. The CIT began with 16 first-round games. Games took place March 13–28, 2012. 32 participants who were not invited to the 2012 NCAA tournament, the 2012 National Invitation Tournament, or the 2012 College Basketball Invitational made up the field. The winner of the 2012 Great West Conference men's basketball tournament, North Dakota, received an automatic bid to the tournament. All games, except for the championship game, were streamed online by America One Sports. Free registration was required to view the games. The championship game was once again broadcast nationally by Fox College Sports on FCS Central. The tournament was won by Mercer who defeated Utah State in the championship game 70–67. Smith Spectrum
The Dee Glen Smith Spectrum is a 10,270-seat multi-purpose arena in the western United States, located on the campus of Utah State University in Logan, Utah. Best known as the home of the Utah State Aggies men's and the women's basketball teams, it also hosts gymnastics, volleyball, and other sporting events. The elevation at street level is approximately above sea level. In addition to sporting events, the Smith Spectrum is utilized for concerts, commencement ceremonies, and other special events central to the Cache Valley community. Originally known as the Assembly Center, the arena's first basketball game was on December 1, 1970, a 95–89 victory over Ohio State. It became known as the Spectrum within the next year, and was named for Dee Glen Smith, founder of Smith's Food and Drug, whose contribution funded a 1988 renovation that added new offices for the athletics department and ticket office. Fox College Sports
Stadium College Sports (formerly Fox College Sports) is a group of three American sports networks. Owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and Entertainment Studios (under the joint venture Diamond Sports Group), the three channels air college and high school sporting events and programming. The channel is divided into three feeds—Atlantic, Central, and Pacific. Despite their names, the feeds no longer correspond to specific regions. Programming is drawn from the Bally Sports regional sports networks and Stadium. Big West Conference
The Big West Conference (BWC) is an American collegiate athletic conference whose member institutions participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The conference was originally formed on July 1, 1969, as the Pacific Coast Athletic Association (PCAA), and in 1988 was renamed the Big West Conference. The conference stopped sponsoring college football after the 2000 season. Among the conference's 11 member institutions, 10 are located in California (with 9 located in Southern California alone) and one is located in Hawaii. All of the schools are public universities, with the California schools evenly split between the California State University and the University of California systems. NCAA Division I Independent Schools (basketball)
NCAA Division I independent schools are four-year institutions that compete in college athletics at the NCAA Division I level, but do not belong to an established athletic conference for a particular sport. These schools may however still compete as members of an athletic conference in other sports. A school may also be fully independent, and not belong to any athletic conference for any sport at all. The reason for independent status varies among institutions, but it is frequently because the school's primary athletic conference does not sponsor a particular sport. Mid-American Conference
The Mid-American Conference (MAC) is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I collegiate athletic conference with a membership base in the Great Lakes region that stretches from Western New York to Illinois. Nine of the twelve full member schools are in Ohio and Michigan, with single members located in Illinois, Indiana, and New York. Patriot League
The Patriot League is a collegiate athletic conference comprising private institutions of higher education and two United States service academies based in the Northeastern United States. Outside the Ivy League, it is among the most selective groups of higher education institutions in the NCAA, and has a very high student-athlete graduation rate for both the NCAA graduation success rate and the federal graduation rate.
