2012 Ceredigion County Council Election
An election to Ceredigion County Council was held on 3 May 2012 along with elections to 20 of the other 21 local authorities in Wales (all except Anglesey), community council elections in Wales and other elections elsewhere in the United Kingdom. It was followed by the 2017 election. All 42 council seats were up for election. The previous council was controlled by Independents in coalition with the Liberal Democrat group and the single Labour member. Since 2008, there had been two by-elections in Aberystwyth, Rheidol and Ciliau Aeron which were both won by Plaid Cymru. 2008 Ceredigion County Council Election
The elections to Ceredigion County Council were held on 1 May 2008 along with elections to other Welsh councils, plus the London Mayor and Assembly Elections, Metropolitan English councils and Non Metropolitan English councils elections. All 42 council seats are up for election. It was preceded by the 2004 election and followed by the 2012 election. The previous council was controlled by Independents in coalition with the Liberal Democrat group and the single Labour member. Since 2004, there have been no by-elections to the council (the only council in Wales not to have any during the last four years). Nominations for the council elections closed on 4 April 2008. The last council meeting before the elections (when the council was formally dissolved) was held on 17 April 2008. Carl Sargeant
Carl Sargeant (1968 – 7 November 2017) was a Welsh politician who was the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children in the Welsh Government. He represented the constituency of Alyn and Deeside in the National Assembly for Wales from 2003. Sargeant was removed from his Cabinet position and suspended from Welsh Labour on 3 November 2017 following allegations about his behaviour. He died four days later, reportedly taking his own life. On 11 July 2019, an inquest ruled his death a suicide. Background Sargeant was born in St Asaph, Flintshire, to Sylvia (née Hughes) and Malcolm Sargeant. Before becoming an Assembly Member, Sargeant worked as a process operator at the Warwick International Limited chemical manufacturing plant in Mostyn. He was also a quality and environmental auditor and a member of the site's Emergency Response Team. 2012 Welsh Local Elections
The 2012 Welsh local elections took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of all twenty-two local authorities in Wales. They were held alongside other local elections in the United Kingdom. The previous elections were held in 2008. The Labour Party made gains at the expense of the other three major parties and of independents. Labour won majority control of ten councils—up eight from the 2008 local elections—while two remained under the control of independents and nine councils had no overall control. The Welsh Government announced that elections for Anglesey council would be postponed to May 2013. Shaun Bailey (West Bromwich MP)
Shaun Stephen Bailey (born 22 July 1992) is a British Conservative Party politician who was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for West Bromwich West at the 2019 general election. Prior to his political career, he was a trainee solicitor. Early life and career Bailey grew up in Telford and Newport in Shropshire where he and his sister were raised by their mother. Elizabeth Ann Francis (born 1960), known as Lisa Francis, is a former member of the National Assembly for Wales for the Welsh Conservative Party in the Mid and West Wales region. 2015 United Kingdom General Election
The 2015 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 to elect 650 members to the House of Commons. It was the first and only general election held at the end of a Parliament under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011. Local elections took place in most areas on the same day. Polls and commentators had predicted the outcome would be too close to call and would result in a second consecutive hung parliament whose composition would be either similar to or more complicated than the 2010 general election. Opinion polls were eventually proven to have underestimated the Conservative vote as the party, having governed in coalition with the Liberal Democrats since 2010, won 330 seats and 36.9% of the vote share, giving them a small overall majority of 12 seats (including Speaker John Bercow—ten seats without him) and their first outright win since 1992. Ceredigion County Council
Ceredigion County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Ceredigion) is the governing body for the county of Ceredigion, since 1996 one of the unitary authorities of Wales. The council's main offices are in Aberaeron. History The current council was created on 1 April 1996 under the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994, replacing Ceredigion District Council and also taking over county-level functions in the area from Dyfed County Council, which was abolished. The 1994 act specified that the new authority was to have both an English and a Welsh name: Cardiganshire / Sir Aberteifi. The new authority was elected in 1995, but acted as a shadow authority alongside the outgoing district and county councils until the new arrangements took effect the following year. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them.
