2012 Berlin International Film Festival
The 62nd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 9 to 19 February 2012. British film director Mike Leigh was the President of the Jury. The first five films to be screened in the competition were announced on 19 December 2011. American actress Meryl Streep was presented with the Honorary Golden Bear on 14 February. Benoît Jacquot's film '' Les adieux à la reine'' was announced as the opening film. The Golden Bear for Best Film went to the Italian film ''Caesar Must Die'', directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, which also served as closing night film. Farewell, My Queen
''Farewell, My Queen'' (french: Les Adieux à la reine) is a 2012 French drama film directed by Benoît Jacquot and based on the novel of the same name by Chantal Thomas, who won the ''Prix Femina'' in 2002. It gives a fictional account of the last days of Marie Antoinette in power seen through the eyes of Sidonie Laborde, a young servant who reads aloud to the queen. The film stars Diane Kruger as the Queen, Léa Seydoux, and Virginie Ledoyen. It opened the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012 and has subsequently been screened at other festivals. It was released on 21 March 2012 in France. Boualem Sansal
Boualem Sansal ( ar, بوعلام صنصال; born 15 October 1949) is an Algerian author. In 2012, he was named winner of the Prix du roman arabe, but the prize money was withdrawn due to Sansal's visit to Israel to speak at the Jerusalem Writers Festival. Biography Boualem Sansal was born in Théniet El Had, Tissemsilt. Trained as an engineer with a doctorate in economics, he began writing novels at the age of 50 after retiring from his job as a high-ranking official in the Algerian government. The assassination of President Mohamed Boudiaf in 1992 and the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in Algeria inspired him to write about his country. Sansal continues to live with his wife and two daughters in Algeria despite the controversy his books have aroused in his homeland. Brillante "Dante" Mendoza (born 30 July 1960) is a Filipino independent filmmaker. Mendoza is known one of the key members associated with the Filipino New Wave. David OReilly (born 1985) is an Irish artist, film maker and game developer based in Los Angeles, California, US. Work Animation OReilly began his animation career at the age of 14, where he worked at Cartoon Saloon. Aside from a 1-minute film entitled ''Ident'', from which he draws his logo, the earliest work available on his website is ''WOFL2106''. This short draws equally on original designs and popular internet memes to create a disturbing landscape of serenity juxtaposed with chaos. This film sets the tone for his entire œuvre, though the direct inclusion of outside memes disappears in his later work. He created several animation sequences and props for the 2007 film ''Son of Rambow'', as well as animation for the "guide" sequences in ''The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'', with Shynola.
