2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix
The 2012 Australian motorcycle Grand Prix was the seventeenth and penultimate round of the 2012 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. It took place on the weekend of 26–28 October 2012 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. MotoGP race report This race was most notable for the last victory of Casey Stoner before he chose to retire, as well as his final win on home soil. Jorge Lorenzo leads the standings with 330 points, followed by Dani Pedrosa with 307 and Casey Stoner with 213 points. Pedrosa has a 23 point deficit to Lorenzo, and if he scores three or more points in this race, he will be crowned the 2012 MotoGP world champion. Australian Kris McLaren was not able to qualify for the race in his Avintia Bluesens, therefor he did not start the race. Home hero Casey Stoner took pole on Saturday with a time of 1:29.623. 2012 Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing Season
The 2012 MotoGP World Championship season was the 64th F.I.M. Road Racing World Championship season. Casey Stoner started the season as the defending World Champion, while Honda was the defending Manufacturers' Champion. In the premier MotoGP class, the championship battle revolved around Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo and Honda pairing Dani Pedrosa and defending champion Stoner. Lorenzo won four of the first six races to be held in the campaign to open up an advantage over Stoner, before he was taken out of the Dutch TT on the first lap by Álvaro Bautista; Stoner won the race to eradicate the points lead. In the next race, Stoner crashed out of the German Grand Prix on the final lap and allowed Pedrosa to take his first win of the season. Iván Silva Alberola (born June 12, 1982 in Barcelona) is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. He races in the RFME Superstock 1000 Championship aboard a Suzuki GSX-R1000. Silva has made occasional substitute racing appearances in MotoGP. After appearing in 2005 he filled in for D'Antin at Donington Park and Brno in 2006, as their regular rider Alex Hofmann was filling in for Sete Gibernau on a works Ducati. Aleix Espargaró Villà (born 30 July 1989) is a Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer. Nicholas Patrick Hayden (July 30, 1981 May 22, 2017), nicknamed "The Kentucky Kid", was an American professional motorcycle racer who won the MotoGP World Championship in 2006. Hayden began racing motorcycles at a young age. He began his road racing career in the CMRA before progressing to the AMA Supersport Championship and then to the AMA Superbike Championship.
