2011–12 UCI Track Cycling World Cup
The 2011–12 UCI Track Cycling World Cup (also known as the 2011–2012 UCI Track Cycling World Cup, presented by Samsung for sponsorship reasons) was a multi-race tournament over a season of track cycling. The season ran from 4 November 2011 to 19 February 2012. The World Cup is organised by the Union Cycliste Internationale. In this edition the World Cup consisted of four rounds in Astana, Cali, Beijing and London. The series played a key role in who qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics and had its final round staged in the Veldorome where the 2012 Olympics were later held in London, as well as having a round in the 2008 Summer Olympics Velodrome in Beijing. UCI Track Cycling World Cup
The UCI Track Cycling World Cup (formerly known as the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics) is a multi race tournament held over a track cycling season - usually between October and February. Each series is divided into several rounds, each held in a different country. Format The UCI Track Cycling World Cup is a key event within the Track Cycling calendar, with only the World Championships and the Olympic Games attracting more World Ranking points. The series is open to national teams and registered trade teams who compete over a number of track cycling disciplines. The overall classification is decided on a points system with riders or teams amassing points in each discipline competed during each round of the series. The rider or team that has the greatest number of points in each discipline wears a white jersey in that discipline in the following round to denote their status as leader. Kaarle McCulloch
Kaarle McCulloch (born 20 January 1988) is an Australian former professional track cyclist and four time World Champion in the team sprint. She also won three golds at the Commonwealth Games and an Olympic bronze medal. She qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and rode in two events, the Women's Keirin where she came ninth, and the Women's Sprint where she came thirteenth. Early years McCulloch grew up in Gymea New South Wales. She was a promising middle-distance runner and won middle-distance championships in the 400 metres and 800 metres events when she was 14,15 and 16. When she was 17 her motivation in track and field waned and she turned to cycling to reinvigorate her Olympic dream. Her step-father Ken Bates introduced her to track cycling. Evgeny Kovalev (born 6 March 1989 in Moscow) is a Russian professional cyclist, who last competed with the Russian Helicopters squad. Nikias Arndt (born 18 November 1991) is a German professional track and road cyclist, who rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Arndt rode for between 2010 and 2012, before joining the team for the 2013 season. He achieved his first professional victory at the 2013 Arctic Race of Norway, winning the third stage, en route to finishing third overall behind Thor Hushovd and Kenny van Hummel. Arndt also won the young riders classification at the event, as the best-placed rider under the age of 25. In June 2017, he was named in the startlist for the Tour de France. Dominique Cornu
Dominique Cornu (born 10 October 1985) is a Belgian retired road and track cyclist from Flanders, who competed professionally between 2005 and 2015. He specialised in the time trial discipline. Career Cornu was born in Beveren. At the 2006 World Cycling Championship he was crowned Under-23 Time Trial World Champion. He had previously won the Junior Belgian Time Trial Championship in 2003 and 2004, and in 2005 he became the Belgian Under-23 time trial Champion. Cornu is also an accomplished track cyclist, winning the Individual Pursuit at the 2006 Belgian Track Cycling Championships. In addition to Cornu's time trialing skills he is also a promising cobblestone rider, having won the Under-23 edition of the prestigious Omloop "Het Volk" cycling classic in 2006. Glenn O'Shea
Glenn O'Shea (born 14 June 1989, Swan Hill) is an Australian track cyclist who won the Omnium at the 2012 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. He was also a member of the Australian team that won silver in the team pursuit at the 2012 World Championships and the 2012 Olympics. O'Shea briefly quit cycling as an under-23 in 2010 after contracting a severe case of glandular fever. However, after a representing the Australia in team pursuit and omnium in both the Worlds and the Olympics in 2012, he joined the continental cycling team for 2013.
