2011–12 Drake Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 2011–12 Drake Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Drake University during the 2011–12 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team, which plays in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), was led by fourth-year head coach Mark Phelps and played their home games at the Knapp Center. Preseason and exhibition Ryan Wedel graduated, but returned as graduate assistant. The Bulldogs replaced two-thirds of their coaching staff. Frank Weisler left the team after suffering a career-ending pre-season injury. Brennen Newton is no longer with the team. The Bulldogs were picked to finish 7th in the pre-season MVC poll. Several players suffered pre-season injuries. Seth VanDeest will redshirt the season along with Reece Uhlenhopp who only played one minute against Indiana State. Mark Phelps
Mark Edward Phelps (born January 22, 1966) is an American basketball coach who is currently the head coach at Prolific Prep. Prior to his current job, Phelps was an assistant at the University of Arizona from 2015-2019. Phelps spent the 2013–14 season as an assistant coach for Marquette University. His most recent NCAA head coaching job was with the Drake University men's basketball team. He was named the 25th head basketball coach at Drake University and successor to Keno Davis on April 21, 2008. He was fired by Drake on March 14, 2013. He has a B.S. in physical education from Old Dominion University, which he received in 1996, and is a 1984 graduate of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. On May 18, 2015, Phelps was hired as an assistant to Sean Miller's staff at the University of Arizona. The Winthrop Eagles men's basketball team represents Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, United States and competes in the Big South Conference. The 2011–12 Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team represented the University of Iowa in the 2011–12 college basketball season. The team was led by 2nd year head coach Fran McCaffery and played their home games at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, which has been their home since 1983. They were members of the Big Ten Conference. The Eastern Michigan Eagles men's basketball team represents Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The team currently competes in the West division of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Mountain West–Missouri Valley Challenge
The Mountain West – Missouri Valley Challenge was an in-season NCAA Division I men's college basketball series, matching up teams from the Mountain West Conference (MW) and the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). The series began in November 2009 and featured all of the MW teams against most of the MVC teams. The series was discontinued after the 2018 iteration. The first challenge was held in 2009. The conferences agreed to a four-year deal, extending the challenge through 2012. The challenge was not extended beyond its original term and ended after 2012. However, it was announced on April 2, 2015 that the conferences would renew the series in 2015. Since the Mountain West now has 11 members to the MVC's 10, all Missouri Valley members were competing in the renewed series, with one MW team sitting out. The 2011–12 Air Force Falcons men's basketball team represented the Air Force Academy. Led by head coach Jeff Reynolds, who was in his 5th season with the team, was fired on February 8. Dave Pilipovich was named the Interim coach for the rest of the season. They played their home games at the Clune Arena on the Air Force Academy's main campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado and are a member of the Mountain West Conference. ExtraMile Arena (formerly BSU Pavilion and Taco Bell Arena) is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the western United States, on the campus of Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.
