The following is a list of notable events and releases that occurred in 2011 in mainland European music. Events January *17 – The 2011 Grammis Awards take place in Sweden. Robyn walks away as the big winner of the night receiving awards in four categories: Best Female Artist; Best Composer; Best Album for '' Body Talk''; and Best Song for '' Dancing on My Own''. *30 – The Netherlands national final for the Eurovision Song Contest was held (''Nationaal Songfestival''). The song ''Je vecht nooit alleen'' (''You will never fight alone'') is chosen for Dutch band 3JS. Continental Europe
Continental Europe or mainland Europe is the contiguous continent of Europe, excluding its surrounding islands. It can also be referred to ambiguously as the European continent, – which can conversely mean the whole of Europe – and, by some, simply as the Continent. When Eurasia is regarded as a single continent, Europe is treated as a subcontinent, and called as European subcontinent. The old notion of Europe as a cultural term was centred on core Europe (''Kerneuropa''), the continental territory of the historical Carolingian Empire, corresponding to modern France, Italy, German-speaking Europe and the Benelux states (historical Austrasia). This historical core of "Carolingian Europe" was consciously invoked in the 1950s as the historical ethno-cultural basis for the prospective European integration (see also Multi-speed Europe). Germany In The Eurovision Song Contest 2011
Germany hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Düsseldorf and selected their song through a national final, organised by German broadcaster ARD in collaboration with Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). In June 2010, ARD announced that Lena Meyer-Landrut would represent Germany at the contest again. Before Eurovision Artist selection At the winner's press conference of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, Stefan Raab announced that Lena Meyer-Landrut would again represent the Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 to defend her title. On 30 June 2010, NDR confirmed that they had internally selected Meyer-Landrut to represent the country.
