2011 Yas Marina Circuit GP2 Asia Series Round
The 2011 Abu Dhabi GP2 Asia round was the first round of the 2011 GP2 Asia Series season. It was held on 11 and 12 February 2011 at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This round saw the competitive début of the new Dallara GP2/11 chassis, which was brought in as a replacement for the first-generation GP2 car, the Dallara GP2/05, which débuted in the inaugural season of the series. It was also the first race for new tyre supplier Pirelli, after Bridgestone is a Japanese multinational tire manufacturer founded in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi (1889–1976) in the city of Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan. Yas Marina Circuit
The Yas Marina Circuit (Arabic: حلبة مرسى ياس) is the venue for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The circuit was designed by Hermann Tilke, and is situated on Yas Island, near Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Yas Marina was the second of four Formula One tracks in the Middle East, with the first being in Bahrain and subsequent tracks in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. A two-day GP2 Asia Series test was held to officially open the circuit, which was held a week before the 2009 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It also hosted the opening event for the Australian V8 Supercars series, the Yas V8 400, in February 2010. The Dallara GP2/05 is an open-wheel formula racing car, developed by Italian chassis manufacturer Dallara, for use in the GP2 Series, a feeder series for Formula One. The GP2/05 was the first 1st-generation car used by the GP2 Series. The GP2/05 was used from 2005 to 2007, in keeping with the series philosophy of introducing a chassis every three years. Nathanaël Berthon (born 1 July 1989 in Romagnat) is a professional racing driver from France. Addax, or Barwa Addax was a Spanish motorsport team owned by the bank Addax Capital, which competed in the GP2, GP3 and GP2 Asia Series. Team history GP2 Series Barwa Addax was formed as a result of Alejandro Agag purchase of the Campos Racing GP2 team.
