The 2011 Vuelta a Asturias was the 55th edition of the Vuelta a Asturias road cycling stage race, which was held from 28 April to 2 May 2011. The race started in Oviedo Oviedo (; ast, Uviéu ) is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain and the administrative and commercial centre of the region. Javier Moreno Bazán (born 18 July 1984) is a Spanish professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Prior to this, Moreno has also competed for the , , , and teams. Career Moreno was born in Jaén. In 2009, Moreno won the third annual Criterium Ciudad de Jaén race, an unofficial two-day competition held during the off-season of the UCI World Tour circuit. Moreno was named in the start list for the 2016 Giro d'Italia, but abandoned the race on Stage 7. After five years with Movistar, in September 2016 Moreno announced that he would join for the 2017 season, with a role as a domestique for Vincenzo Nibali and with his main focus for the season being the Giro d'Italia. At the Giro d'Italia, he was disqualified on stage 4 of the race, after pushing Diego Rosa. In June 2017, he was named in the startlist for the Tour de France. Vuelta Asturias
Vuelta Asturias is a professional cycle road race held in Spain in early May each year. The event was first run in 1925 but has not been held consistently until 1968 to present. Since 2005, the race has been organised as a 2.1 event on the UCI Europe Tour. On 25 April 2014, the Vuelta Asturias was suspended one week before its start due to the lack of funds and sponsors. Alejandro Manuel Marque Porto (born 23 October 1981 in Pontevedra) is a Spanish cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Continental team . Career Marque was in fine form at the 2013 Volta a Portugal, winning the ninth stage, a individual time trial, before winning the race overall. This earned him a contract with the for the 2014 season. However, Marque tested positive for betamethasone during the race. Marque claimed that the UCI had known about the use of the substance as he had used in the days leading up to the race to treat a bad knee. The result still stands, but Marque never went to the as a clause in the contract he had signed allowed the team to terminate the contract if there were any problems with doping. Christian Meier (born February 21, 1985) is a Canadian former racing cyclist who rode professionally between 2005 and 2016 for the , and and teams. Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, Meier is descended from German restaurateurs who settled outside Sussex, Canada and he attended Sussex Regional High School. His brother Michael succumbed to cancer in 2010. He raced for in 2012, competing in the Giro d'Italia in May, with his best showing on Day 11 in 15th place.
