Club Universitario de Deportes, popularly known as Universitario or simply as La "U", is a Peruvian football club located in Lima. The club was founded in 1924 under the name Federación Universitaria by students of the National University of San Marcos but was forced to rename in 1931. Since 1928, the club competes in the top tier of Peruvian football, the Peruvian Primera División, Torneo Descentralizado. In 2000, they opened the 85,000-capacity stadium Estadio Monumental "U", Estadio Monumental, currently the largest stadium in Peru and 5th largest in South America, retiring their smaller Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández. Universitario and Alianza Lima participate in the Peruvian Clásico, which has its roots in the club's first participation in the Primera División in 1928. Antonio "Toñito" Gonzales (born 16 May 1986) is a Peruvian footballer who currently is a free agent and last played for Pirata F.C. in the Peruvian second tier. He plays as a defensive midfielder. José Adolfo Mendoza Zambrano (born 24 July 1982) is a Peruvian football player currently playing for Santa Rosa PNP. Club career Mendoza has played for multiple clubs in Peru as well as Greece. Guillermo Tomasevich Castañeda (born March 20, 1987) is a Peruvian footballer who plays as a centre forward. Club career Tomasevich developed as a footballer in the youth academy of Deportivo Municipal. He was promoted to first team in January 2008 and played in the 2008 Peruvian Second Division season. In January 2009 Tomasevich joined Cusco giants Cienciano for the start of the 2009 season. He made his Peruvian First Division debut that season on 11 April 2009 away to Alianza Lima.
