2011 UIFL Season
The 2011 Ultimate Indoor Football League season was the first season of the league. The regular season lasted from February 18 to May 29 and the postseason, will be held the following two weeks with the championship game being held at the highest remaining seed. The 2011 season went off without any teams folding or any games being missed or rescheduled. The Northern Kentucky River Monsters finished with the best regular season record, finished 11–3. However, due to league sanctions they were not able to host an playoff games and were dropped to a four seed. Saginaw finished 9–5, followed by Eastern Kentucky 8–6, Huntington 7–7, Johnstown 6–8 and Canton 1–13. Saginaw defeated Northern Kentucky, 48–47, in the first semifinals of the Ultimate Bowl I Playoffs, sponsored by Trophy Awards. Ultimate Indoor Football League
The Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) was a regional professional indoor football league that began its inaugural season on February 18, 2011 as the Ultimate Indoor Football League before playing as the United Indoor Football League in 2012, then switched back to "Ultimate" for the 2013 season. After the 2014 season, the league merged with X-League Indoor Football. History On February 18, 2011, the first-ever UIFL game was played between the Saginaw Sting and the Eastern Kentucky Drillers. The inaugural game was held at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Michigan. The league co-founders are Michael Taylor and Andrew Haines; Haines was also the owner and founder of the Atlantic/American Indoor Football League and the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League. Fullback (American Football)
A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Fullbacks are typically larger than halfbacks and in most offensive schemes the fullback's duties are split among power running, pass catching, and blocking for both the quarterback and the other running back. Many great runners in the history of American football have been fullbacks, including Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Bronko Nagurski, Jim Taylor, Franco Harris, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Christian Okoye, and Levi Jackson. Martevious Young
Martevious Young (born February 16, 1988) is a former American football quarterback. Early life Born to Robin Robinson, who died an early death, Martevious was raised by his guardians Joseph and Sheila Young. He played for Coach Willie Carl Martin at Benjamin Russell High School, where he was named a Permanent Starter. He was also a 5A Best Player in state nominee, a Super 12 selection, All-district in his junior and senior years. Went to the playoffs every year as a starter, and averaged eight to nine wins as a starter each season. Also lettered three years in baseball and two years in basketball. Michael Robinson (arena Football)
Michael Robinson (born March 3, 1986) is a former professional arena football and indoor football defensive end. College career Robinson attended Nassau Community College where he was a standout member of the football team. He was named a 2005 pre-season NJCAA honorable mention as a tight end by Rivals.com. Professional career Huntington Hammer Robinson was selected with the first pick of the second round (7th Overall) by the Huntington Hammer in the 2011 UIFL Draft. Robinson enjoyed a great season with the Hammer, on his way to being named to the 1st Team All-UIFL as a defensive lineman. Harrisburg Stampede Robinson played in one game with the Harrisburg Stampede of the Southern Indoor Football League. 2011 Saginaw Sting Season
The 2011 Saginaw Sting season was the 3rd season for the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise. After not faring well during their only season in the IFL, the Sting For the 2011 season, the team was purchased by San Diego-based business man, Mike Esposito. Esposito announced that the team would play in the newly formed Ultimate Indoor Football League, which Esposito was also the league's commissioner. He hired Stuart Schweigert as the Sting's Director of Player Development. After a 2-1 start, John Mize was fired for failing to submit a game roster before the Wednesday night deadline, causing the Sting to play a game short handed, that they eventually lost 37-38. He was replaced by assistant coach Vince Leveille. 2011 Eastern Kentucky Drillers Season
The 2011 Eastern Kentucky Drillers season was the 1st season for the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise. On November 26, 2010, the UIFL announced that the team in Pikeville, Kentucky would be named the Eastern Kentucky Drillers. The Drillers lost their first game in franchise history, a 44-49 defeat to the hands of the Saginaw Sting. Even in the defeat, two Drillers (Aric Evans and David Jones), won the first ever Offensive Player of the Week and Special Teams Player of the Week Awards in the history of the Ultimate Indoor Football League. The following week, the Drillers played their first ever home game at Eastern Kentucky Expo Center, and in front of 3,500 fans, the Drillers won 37-26 over the Huntington Hammer. 2011 Canton Cougars Season
The 2011 Canton Cougars season was the 1st and only season for the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise. The Cougars were formed by the head of the Ultimate Indoor Football League, Andrew Haines. Haines made the hire of Rashan Hall to become the Cougars first ever head coach. The Cougars played their first ever game on February 20, 2011 against the Huntington Hammer, a game in which the Cougars lost 41-26. With the team getting off to a rough 0-3 start, Haines issued a guarantee to the people of Canton, saying that the revamped Cougars roster would defeat the Saginaw Sting during their week 4 meeting. The Cougars didn't make their owner a liar, defeating the Sting 53-52. Their victory over the Sting proved to be the lone bright spot for the Cougars, who would lose 9 straight before firing Hall, and replacing him with Paul Farrah. Seth Burkholder
Seth Burkholder (born December 17, 1982) is a former American football placekicker. Burkholder attended Bluffton High School, in Bluffton, Ohio, where he was a member of the football team. After his senior season, he moved on to Bluffton University where he didn't play his freshman and sophomore years. In 2004, Burkholder became the starting kicker for the Beavers. Burkholder went on to start for two outstanding seasons at Bluffton, being named to 3 All-HCAC teams, and once a National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Adidas All-Great Lakes Region player. After a great collegiate career, Burkholder played professionally with Canton Cougars and the Marion Blue Racers. After a few games with Marion, Burkholder was signed by the Pittsburgh Power. 2011 Northern Kentucky River Monsters Season
The 2011 Northern Kentucky River Monsters season was the first season for the Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL) franchise. Announced as a startup team for the newly formed Ultimate Indoor Football League in 2010, the team was purchased by Jill Chitwood from the UIFL in February 2011. Just a week before the season began, team General Manager, Jared Lorenzen, relieved himself of his duties as general manager, and became the quarterback for the franchise. In the River Monsters first ever game they defeated the Canton Cougars by a score of 63–41. With a Week 9 win over the Saginaw Sting, the River Monsters had clinched a postseason berth in their first season, clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs. In gridiron football, defensive backs (DBs), also called the secondary, are the players on the defensive side of the ball who play farthest back from the line of scrimmage.
