2011 Queensland Firebirds Season
The 2011 Mission Queensland Firebirds season saw Queensland Firebirds compete in the 2011 ANZ Championship. With a team coached by Roselee Jencke, captained by Lauren Nourse and featuring Romelda Aiken, Laura Geitz, Clare McMeniman and Natalie Medhurst, Firebirds finished the season undefeated. They became the first team in the history of the ANZ Championship to go through the regular season and the playoffs without losing a single match. In the major semi-final, Firebirds defeated Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic and in the grand final they defeated Northern Mystics, winning their first premiership. Roselee Jencke
Roselee Jencke is a former Australia netball international and netball coach. As a player, Jencke was a member of the Australia teams that won the gold medal at the 1991 World Netball Championships and the silver medals at the 1985 World Games and the 1987 World Netball Championships. In 1992 she was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia. Between 2009 and 2020, Jencke served as head coach of Queensland Firebirds. Between 2011 and 2016 she guided Firebirds to five ANZ Championship grand finals, winning three premierships in 2011, 2015 and 2016. Early life, education and family Jencke is originally from Pakenham, Victoria. She is the daughter of Norman and Janet Jencke. Her younger brother, Ray Jencke, is a former Australian rules footballer. She attended Pakenham Secondary College. She is married to Paul Gardner. Netball New South Wales Waratahs
Netball New South Wales Waratahs is an Australian netball team that represents Netball New South Wales in the Australian Netball League. In 2008 they were founder members of the ANL. They were ANL champions in 2011 and have been grand finalists on a further five occasions, making them the second most successful team in the ANL after Victorian Fury. Waratahs are effectively the reserve team of New South Wales Swifts. 2011 World Netball Championships
The 2011 World Netball Championships was the 13th edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball. It was held in Singapore from 3–10 July. All 48 matches were played at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Singapore was chosen as the host nation at the 2007 IFNA Congress in Auckland. Sixteen nations contested the week-long tournament. Ten nations gained selection for the World Championships in five regional qualifying tournaments held from 2010–11; the top five national teams from the 2007 tournament also qualified, along with host nation Singapore. The teams were divided into four pools, in which teams played every other team once. The two highest teams in each pool progressed to the quarter-finals, while the remaining teams played in classification matches to determine the 9th–16th placings. Australia National Netball Team
The Australia national netball team, also known as the Australian Diamonds, represent Netball Australia in international netball tournaments such as the INF Netball World Cup, the Commonwealth Games, the Constellation Cup, the Netball Quad Series and the Fast5 Netball World Series. Jacqui Russell
Jacqui Russell (born 1 August 1988) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning. Russell began her netball career at the Queensland Firebirds in the ANZ Championship, where she played for the club in 2010 and 2011 and was part of the club's premiership winning team in the latter year. She returned to top-level netball in 2018, replacing Sarahpheinna Woulf as a permanent injury replacement player at the Sunshine Coast Lightning at the start of the season. Sarah Wall (born 16 October 1984) is an Australian netball player. She currently plays for Giants Netball in the Suncorp Super Netball competition, as an injury replacement player. She has previously played for the New South Wales Swifts. In 2005 she played her first year of elite netball, for the Melbourne Phoenix in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. She played three years with the Phoenix until the competition was disbanded in 2007. She was not signed with a team in the new ANZ Championship in its inaugural season the following year. Laura Scherian
Laura Scherian (born 26 June 1988) is an Australian netball player in the Suncorp Super Netball league, playing for the Sunshine Coast Lightning. Scherian began her netball career in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy at the now-defunct AIS Canberra Darters in 2007, before being picked up by the Queensland Firebirds in 2010 in the ANZ Championship. She was not re-signed by the Firebirds in 2011 which led her to be relegated to the second-tier Queensland Fusion team in the Australian Netball League, where she played at for the next six years as an amateur. She would play only sporadically for the Firebirds in those years when required to replace an injured contracted player. Queensland Sapphires are an Australian netball team that represents Netball Queensland in the Australian Netball Championships. Between 2008 and 2019, as Queensland Fusion, they played in the Australian Netball League. Ameliaranne Ekenasio (née Wells; born 11 January 1991) is an Australian-born, New Zealand netball player. She currently plays for Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic in the ANZ Premiership. Ekenasio is known for her high work rate and smooth long-range shooting. Ekenasio made her New Zealand debut in the 2014 Constellation Cup against Australia. She missed the 2017 season due to the birth of her son Ocean, but returned to take a full part in 2018.
