2011 New York Yankees Season
The 2011 New York Yankees season was the 109th season for the New York Yankees franchise. The Yankees began the season at home against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday, March 31. The Yankees clinched a playoff berth in the first game of a doubleheader on September 21, and clinched the AL East division title in the second game. The Yankees season ended on October 6 when they lost a deciding Game 5 of the 2011 American League Division Series to the Detroit Tigers 3–2. It was the first time since 2007 that the Yankees lost an elimination game at home. The 2011 season was the final season in the playing career of longtime Yankees catcher Jorge Posada. Offseason Manager Joe Girardi's three-year contract with the Yankees ended at the conclusion of the 2010 season. American League East
The American League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. MLB consists of an East, Central, and West division for each of its two 15-team leagues, the American League (AL) and National League (NL). This division was created before the start of the season along with the American League West division. Before that time, each league consisted of 10 teams without any divisions. Four of the division's five teams are located in the Eastern United States, with the other team, the Toronto Blue Jays, in Eastern Canada. It is currently the only division that contains a non-American team. Suzyn Waldman
Suzyn Waldman (born ) is an American sportscaster and former musical theater actress. Since the 2005 season, she has been the color commentator for New York Yankees baseball, working with John Sterling on radio broadcasts, first for WCBS-AM and currently for WFAN in New York City. Early life and career Waldman was born in Newton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Jeanne and Philip Waldman. She loved baseball from childhood; she recalls going to a game with her grandfather when she was three and a half years old. She also has joked that she chose Simmons College because it was near Fenway Park. She graduated from Simmons with a degree in Economics. Prior to her broadcasting career, Waldman worked for many years as an actress and singer in musical theater. Her most notable role was as Dulcinea in ''Man of La Mancha.'' Dellin Betances
Dellin Betances (; born March 23, 1988) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees and New York Mets from 2011 to 2021. Betances was named an Major League Baseball All-Star Game, MLB All-Star from 2014 to 2017. Early life Betances was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan. Melquisedec "Melky" Mesa (born January 31, 1987) is a Dominican professional baseball outfielder who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees. Larry Rothschild
Lawrence Lee Rothschild (born March 12, 1954) is an American professional baseball pitcher, coach, and manager. Rothschild played for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB) in 1981 and 1982. He has coached for the Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves, Florida Marlins, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and San Diego Padres. He served as the manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998 through 2001, and most recently served as the pitching coach of the Padres from November 8, 2019 until August 23, 2021. David William Eiland (born July 5, 1966) is an American former professional baseball player who was a pitcher for ten Major League Baseball seasons. Eiland played college baseball for the University of Florida and the University of South Florida, and thereafter, played professionally for the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
