2011 New Mexico Bowl
The 2011 New Mexico Bowl was a post-season American college football bowl game, held on December 17, 2011 at University Stadium on the campus of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico as part of the 2011-12 NCAA Bowl season. The game, which was telecast at 12 p.m. MT on ESPN, featured the Wyoming Cowboys from the Mountain West Conference versus the Temple Owls from the Mid-American Conference. Temple made its first trip to the New Mexico Bowl, becoming the first team from the MAC to appear in the game. The Owls made just their fourth bowl appearance in school history, and their second in the last three years. Wyoming appeared in its second New Mexico Bowl. The Cowboys were 35–28 victors over Fresno State in the 2009 New Mexico Bowl. The two schools have only previously played each other on one occasion. The 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season was the highest level of college football competition in the United States organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The regular season began on September 1, 2011 and ended on December 10, 2011. The postseason concluded on January 9, 2012 with the BCS National Championship Game at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the No. 1 LSU Tigers 21–0. Josh Doctson
Josh Doctson (born December 3, 1992) is an American football wide receiver who is a free agent. He played college football at Texas Christian and was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He has also been a member of the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets. Early years Doctson attended Mansfield Legacy High School in Mansfield, Texas, where he was a three-year letterman in both football and basketball. In his first season of football as a junior, he saw action in six games and hauled in 18 passes for 220 yards with a long of 25. Brandon McManus
Brandon Tyler McManus (born July 25, 1991) is an American football placekicker for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He was a member of their Super Bowl 50 championship team, beating the Carolina Panthers, and as of 2022, the last remaining member of the Super Bowl team on the Broncos' roster. Gabriel Knapton (born May 10, 1989) is an American professional gridiron football defensive end who is currently a free agent. He played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 2018 to 2019. College career Knapton played college football for the Wyoming Cowboys from 2007 to 2011. Bernard Hayward Pierce (born May 10, 1990) is a former American football running back. He played college football for Temple University. He was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Early years Pierce attended Glen Mills Schools in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania. He played football and ran track. The 2011 Temple Owls football team represented Temple University in the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Owls were led by first-year head coach Steve Addazio and played their home games at Lincoln Financial Field. They played as a member of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference.
