2011 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship
The 2011 Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship was the 117th staging of the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Kilkenny County Board in 1887. The Championship began on 17 September 2011 and ended on 30 October 2011. O’Loughlin Gaels were the defending champions, however they were defeated in the semi-final by Ballyhale Shamrocks. Clara were relegated from the championship following 0–15 to 0–14 defeat by Tullaroan. Dunnamaggin is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1897, but had to wait ninety-four years for its first senior county title, taking home the junior trophy in 1994. UPMC Nowlan Park (; ) is the principal Gaelic Athletic Association stadium in Kilkenny, Ireland. Named after James Nowlan (the longest serving President of the GAA), the stadium hosts major hurling matches and is home to the Kilkenny hurling team. It opened in 1927 replacing St. James Park. Freshford () is a village and former town in the Barony (Ireland), barony of Cranagh (barony), Crannagh, County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. History The village is the site of a monastery dating to the early 7th century. Ballyragget () is a small town on the river Nore in the north of County Kilkenny in Ireland. Ballyragget is on the N77 north of Kilkenny. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 1,082 people. Toponymy The name 'Ragget' is Anglo-Norman in origin, and denotes a once-prominent Norman landowner Richard le Ragget who held these lands in the early part of the 13th century. Older names of the settlement include Donoughmore (or Donaghmore; ga, Domhnach Mór "large church") and the even more ancient Tullabarry ( ga, Tualach Bare) - the name of a Celtic or possibly pre-Celtic tribe which held their seat in the vicinity. Erin's Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 and since then has been the main sporting organization in the Castlecomer area in County Kilkenny, Ireland. Erin's Own fielded teams in 11 different grades of hurling and in 7 grades of gaelic football in 2006, and is currently undertaking major development at its new ground, Canon Kearns Park. Conahy Shamrocks is a Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the small parish of Conahy, in County Kilkenny, Ireland.
