2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship
The 2011 FIBA Under-19 World Championship (Latvian: 2011. gada FIBA pasaules čempionāts līdz 19 gadu vecumam) was the 10th edition of the FIBA U19 World Championship, the biennial international men's youth basketball championship contested by the U19 national teams of the member associations of FIBA. It was hosted by Latvia from 30 June to 10 July 2011. The draw for the tournament took place on 17 February 2011 in Riga. Teams played a round robin schedule, with the top three teams advancing to the knockout stage. Lithuania won their first title, and captain Jonas Valančiūnas was chosen the tournament MVP. Jonas Valančiūnas
Jonas Valančiūnas ( ; ; born 6 May 1992) is a Lithuanian professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the fifth overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. At the 2019 trade deadline, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. In the 2021 offseason he was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. Valančiūnas has been a member of the Lithuania men's national basketball team since age 19. Arena Riga ( lv, Arēna Rīga) is an indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 and was opened on 15 February 2006. It was built to be used as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship, the other being Skonto Arena. Omar Abada ( ar, عمر عبادة, born 20 April 1993) is a Tunisian professional basketball player who plays for Al Wahda Damascus of the Syrian Basketball League.
