2011 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2011 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 19 and 20 March 2011 at the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was the eleventh edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and was jointly organised by the European Athletic Association and the Bulgarian Athletic Federation. The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. The first day of events was affected by poor weather, but Hungarian Olympic hammer thrower Krisztián Pars produced a series of throws over 79 metres, with a best of 79.84 m to win the men's event. Vira Rebryk won the under-23 women's javelin, while runner-up Liina Laasma broke the Estonian junior record. On the second day, eighteen-year-old javelin thrower Zigismunds Sirmais won the men's senior gold medal with a world junior record mark of 84.47 m. 2010 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2010 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 20 and 21 March 2010 at the Stade Fernand Fournier in Arles, France. It was the tenth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and it was organised by the European Athletics Association and the Fédération française d'athlétisme (French athletics federation). The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus was the original winner of the shot put (and a frequent world medallist during the period). In 2013 all his results from August 2005 onwards were annulled after a retest of his doping sample from the 2005 World Championships in Athletics proved to be positive, resulting in a lifetime ban for the athlete. Liina Laasma
Liina Laasma (born 13 January 1992) is an Estonian athlete specialising in the javelin throw. She represented her country at the 2013 World Championships without qualifying for the final. In addition, she won the gold medal at the 2011 European Junior Championships on home soil. Her personal best in the event is 63.65 metres set in Rabat in 2016. This is the current national record. Sergiu Ursu
Sergiu Ursu (born April 26, 1980) is a Romanian discus thrower. Originally from the Republic of Moldova, he transferred to compete for Romania from 2003 onwards. He represented his adopted country twice at both the World Championships in Athletics and European Athletics Championships. He was banned for two years from February 2004 after a positive test for Nandrolone. In 2013 Urzu tested positive for Norandrosterone in an out of competition test, and was given another two-year sanction. Erik Cadée
Erik Cadée (born 15 February 1984) is a Dutch discus thrower. Cadée was born in 's-Hertogenbosch. Among his first international appearances was a runner-up performance at the 2001 European Youth Olympic Festival. He competed in the qualifying rounds of the 2002 World Junior Championships in Athletics and improved the following year to claim the gold medal at the 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships. Cadée represented the Netherlands at the World Championships in Athletics in 2007 and 2009, but did not reach the final. He qualified for the final at the 2010 European Athletics Championships, but failed to record a legal throw in his three attempts. Ercüment Olgundeniz (born July 7, 1976 in Izmir) is a Turkish track and field athlete competing in the discus and occasionally shot put. The tall athlete at is a member of Enkaspor, where he is coached by Teodoru Agachi. He took part at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. With his throw of 58.17 m, Olgundeniz ranked 28th and could not qualify for the finals. In 2005, he participated at the Mediterranean Games in Almería, and won the bronze medal with his performance of 59.16 m. He was ranked 44th in the world best list in 2004 with his personal record of 63.49 metres (Turkish record) set on July 4, 2004 in Istanbul. In March 2007 in Yalta he improved the record to 64.34 metres. He competed at the 2007 World Championships, but finished last and did not reach the final. The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field event in which an athlete throws a heavy disk (mathematics), disc—called a discus—in an attempt to mark a farther distance than their competitors. Marco Fortes (born 26 September 1982) is a male shot putter from Portugal. His personal best throw is 21.02 meters – Portuguese record – was achieved at the 2012 European Cup Winter Throwing in Bar, Montenegro, where he won the gold medal. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. Fatih Avan (born 1 January 1989) is a male Turkish javelin thrower. The tall athlete at is a member of Fenerbahçe Athletics team, where he is coached by Metin Altıntaş. Career Avan participated at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy and won the gold medal with a personal best throw of 79.78 m. At the 9th European Winter Throwing Cup held on 14 March 2009 in Los Realejos on Tenerife, Spain, he ranked third throwing the javelin 74.82 m. Avan is broke the Turkish record with a mark of 77.15 m in June 2009 in Bursa. He represented Turkey at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, but did not make it past the qualifying round.
