2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships were held at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France, from 4 to 6 March 2011. 577 athletes representing 46 countries competed at the championships. Twenty-six track and field events were contested, with the events programme divided equally between the genders. Russia topped the medal table, having won the most gold medals (six), as well as having gained the greatest total with fifteen. The host nation, France, was the next best performing team, with five golds being won by French athletes. Germany had the third highest medal haul, followed by Great Britain. Dimitri Bascou (born 20 July 1987) is a French track and field athlete who specialises in the 110 metres hurdles. He is known for his explosive and fast starts. He won the gold medal at the 2016 European Championships and the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Damien Broothaerts (born 13 March 1983 in Uccle) is a Belgian athlete specialising in the sprint hurdles. He represented his country at the 2009 World Championships and 2010 World Indoor Championships. Apart from hurdling he is a modest sprinter, having won several national titles in the 60 metres and 100 metres events. On 23 August 2011, he tested positive for an illegal substance, methylhexanamine, and additionally missed three random doping tests within 18 months. For these infringements he was suspended for two years. However, after his appeal his ban was reduced and he was able to compete again since 16 March 2012. A double Olympic competitor ( 2004, 2008) in his event, he also participated in bobsleigh at the 2006 Olympic Games. Early career He was born in Zagreb, and joined the sports club Hrvatski Akademski Atletski Klub Mladost, the athletics section of '' Mladost''. He took his first of several national titles in 2001, both outdoors and indoors. As a junior athlete he made his international debut at the 2000 World Junior Championships, where he failed to progress from the first round of the hurdles competition. Sir Charles Lawrence Somerset Clarke, 7th Baronet, OLY (born 12 March 1990) is a former professional 110 m hurdler who finished fourth in the London Olympic Games 110 m hurdles final. He is the son of Sir Toby Clarke, 6th Baronet and succeeded to the baronetcy on his father's death in 2019. He served as Captain of the Great Britain Athletics Team at the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships and was coached in Bath by Malcolm Arnold.
