The 2011 Icelandic Men's Football League Cup was the 16th season of the Icelandic Men's League Cup, a pre-season professional football competition in Iceland. Valur Men's Football
The Valur men's football team, commonly known as Valur, is the men's football department of the Knattspyrnufélagið Valur multi-sport club. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland, and currently plays in the Besta deild karla, the top-tier men's football league in Iceland. The team plays it home games at Hlíðarendi located in Reykjavík. The team's colors are red and white. Valur has spent most of it´s time in Icelandic top flight football, having only played 3 seasons in the clubs history outside the top tier. Valur is one of the most successful football clubs in Iceland with 23 Icelandic championships. Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs (HK) or HK Iceland is an Icelandic sports club from the town of Kópavogur, mainly known for its football and handball teams. The club has a football team playing in the top tier of Icelandic football. History The club dates back to 1969, but was officially established on 26 January 1970. They were originally only a handball team, with the football team established in 1992. They bounced around in lower divisions until, in the summer of 2007 they first played in the Icelandic top division, the Úrvalsdeild. Christian Restorff Mouritsen (born 3 December 1988) is a Faroese footballer who currently plays for 2. deild club FC Hoyvík as a forward or midfielder. Club career Mouritsen joined the Manchester City Academy in the 2005 and signed a 3-year contract. He had been on trial with Brøndby and Everton, also several other clubs in England and the Netherlands had offered him a trial, but in the end decided to sign with Manchester City. Guðjón Pétur Lýðsson (born 28 December 1987) is an Icelandic footballer who plays for Grindavík as a midfielder. Club career Guðjón Pétur Lýðsson was an important factor in the team of Haukar that promoted to Úrvalsdeild. After the club was relegated, he was sold to Valur and in the end of the season he went on loan to Helsingborg, where he played couple of matches and won the Swedish league Allsvenskan. Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur, also referred to as Þróttur Reykjavík or Throttur, is a sports club from Reykjavík in Iceland. The club runs a association football, football department as well as Team handball, handball, volleyball and tennis departments. Knattspyrnufélagið Haukar ( en, Hawks F.C.) is an Icelandic multi-sport club from Hafnarfjörður with divisions in Football, Handball, Basketball, Karate, Skiing & Chess. Knattspyrnudeild Vestra, also known as Vestri, is the football department of the Íþróttafélagið Vestri multi-sport club and is based in Ísafjarðarbær, Iceland. Men's History The club was founded in 1986 as the football department of ''Badmintonfélag Ísafjarðar'', or BÍ for short. It first participated in the Icelandic tier-4 league, then known as 4. deild karla, that same year and their first coach was former Icelandic international player Björn Helgason. In 1988, Ísafjörður biggest club, Íþróttabandalag Ísafjarðar (ÍBÍ), folded after years of financial difficulties and most of their players moved over to BÍ who took over as the town's major football club.
