The 2011 Belgian Cup Final, named Cofidis Cup after the sponsor, was played on 21 May 2011 between Westerlo and Standard Liège. It was the 56th Belgian Cup final and was won by Standard Liège. 2010–11 Belgian Cup
The 2010–11 Belgian Cup (also known as ''Cofidis Cup'' because of sponsoring purposes) is the 56th season of the main knockout football competition in Belgium. It commenced on 24 July 2010 with the first matches of Round 1 and will conclude with the Final in May 2011. K. A. A. Gent are the defending champions having won their third Belgian Cup in the 2009-10 season. Competition modus The competition consisted of ten rounds. The first seven rounds were held as single-match elimination rounds. When tied after 90 minutes in the first three rounds, penalties were taken immediately. In rounds four to seven, when tied after 90 minutes first an extra time period of 30 minutes was played, then penalties were taken if still necessary. The quarter- and semifinals were played in a two-leg modus, where the team winning on aggregate advanced. The Final was then again played as a single match. Penalty Kick (association Football)
A penalty kick (commonly known as a penalty or a spot kick) is a method of restarting play in association football, in which a player is allowed to take a single shot at the goal while it is defended only by the opposing team's goalkeeper. It is awarded when an offence punishable by a direct free kick is committed by a player in their own penalty area. The shot is taken from the penalty mark, which is 11 m (12 yards) from the goal line and centred between the touch lines. Procedure The ball is placed on the penalty mark, regardless of where in the penalty area the foul occurred. The player taking the kick must be identified to the referee. Eliaquim Hans Mangala (born 13 February 1991) is a French professional footballer who plays as a centre-back. Mehdi François Carcela-González ( ar, المهدي كارسيلا; born 1 July 1989) is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the Morocco national team. Koen Daerden (; born 8 March 1982) is a Belgian former professional football player and current coach, who works as sporting director for the youth or head of the youth department at Racing Genk. Club career Daerden was born in Tongeren. He started his senior career with K.R.C. Genk, where he became captain.
