The men's singles tournament of the 2011 BWF World Championships ( World Badminton Championships) was held from August 8 to 14. Chen Jin was the defending champion. Lin Dan defeated Lee Chong Wei 20–22, 21–14, 23–21 in the final. Sho Sasaki (badminton)
is a Japanese retired badminton player from Tonami Transportation badminton team. He competed at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics. He also competed in four Asian Games from 2002 to 2014. Career In 2007 he won the Japanese National Championships in men's singles, and 7 international tournaments: the Bahrain Satellite Badminton Tournament, the Banuinvest International Championships, the Osaka International Challenge, the Israel International, the Mauritius International, the Victorian International and the Italian International. Jacob Maliekal (born 1 January 1991) is a male badminton player from South Africa. He became the South Africa national team members in 2009 and won gold medals at the 2011 and 2014 African Games in badminton men's singles event. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Shon Wan-ho
Son Wan-ho (Hangul: 손완호; or ; born 17 May 1988) is a South Korean badminton player. He reached a career high as world number 1 in the men's singles in May 2017. He competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. He plays primarily defensively, and began playing badminton after a teacher suggested it to him in elementary school. He holds a bachelor's degree from Inha University in Incheon, South Korea. In 2017, he helped the Korean national team reach the final at the Sudirman Cup and won that tournament. Hsueh Hsuan-yi (; born 26 October 1985) is a Taiwanese badminton player. In 2014 he participated at the Asian Games. Ville Lång
Ville Lång (born 14 February 1985) is a badminton player from Finland. He won ten consecutive Finland's National Championship men's singles title in 2005–2014, and 3 men's doubles title in 2010, 2011, and 2017. In 2003, he won bronze at the European Junior Championships. Lång competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. He announced his retirement on 31 January 2016, and received a meritorious service award from BWF. After retired from the international competition, Lång started his coaching career first in Paris where he coached the league team Aulnay-sous-Bois after which he has been the head coach of one local club in Sweden. Kevin Haroldo Cordón Buezo (born November 28, 1986) is a Guatemalan badminton player. He won two men's singles title at the Pan American Games, four title at the Pan Am Championships (3 in singles and 1 in doubles), and six title at the Central American and Caribbean Games (4 in singles and 2 in doubles). Hu Yun (; born 31 August 1981) is a retired badminton player representing Hong Kong since 2006. He competed at the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games, and also 2016 Rio Olympics. Kenichi Tago
is a former badminton player from Japan. He is the son of former badminton player Yoshiko Yonekura. In 2010, he reached the final of the All England Open Badminton Championships. En route to the final he beat three seeded players including Nguyen Tien Minh, Chen Jin and Bao Chunlai. In the final, Tago lost to the first seed and reigning World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei from Malaysia with a score of 21–19 and 21–19, following an incorrect line call in Lee Chong Wei's favour at matchpoint. In 2012, he competed at the London 2012 Summer Olympics in the men's singles event, but did not advance to the knock-out stage after being defeated by Niluka Karunaratne of Sri Lanka with a score of 18–21, 16–21. In 2014, he reached the Indonesia Open final after a shocking win over Lee Chong Wei in the semifinal but could not keep up his good form and went on to lose by straight games in the final to Jan O.
