2011 AACTA Television Awards
The categories for television, at the Inaugural Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, known commonly as the AACTA Awards, were presented by the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). The awards were presented with the film awards on two separate events: the AACTA Awards Luncheon, on 15 January 2012, at the Westin Hotel, and the AACTA Awards Ceremony, on 31 January 2012, at the Sydney Opera House. Public voted awards were also presented for Best Television Series, Best Actor and Best Actress. Nominees Winners will be listed first and highlighted in boldface. Australian Academy Of Cinema And Television Arts
The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) is a professional organisation of film and television practitioners in Australia. The Academy's aim is "to identify, award, promote, and celebrate Australia's greatest achievements in film and television". It was established in August 2011 with the backing of the Australian Film Institute (AFI) to act as its industry engagement arm and to administer the AACTA Awards (formerly the Australian Film Institute Awards, also known as the AFI Awards) which rewards achievements in Australian feature film, television, documentary and short films. The Academy is composed of 15 Chapters, each of which represents different screen artists including actors, directors, producers and writers, and it is overseen by the Academy's president and the Honorary Council. The AACTA Award for Best Miniseries or Telefeature is an award that has been handed out to producers annually since 1986 by the Australian Film Institute (AFI), since 2011 the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). History The award was originally presented by the AFI in two separate categories, for "Best Telefeature" and "Best Mini Series", but in 1990 both categories were merged to form Best Television Mini Series or Telefeature. By 2008 the award name was changed again, to AFI Award for Best Telefeature, Mini Series or Short Run Series. ABC TV Plus (formerly ABC2 and ABC Comedy) is an Australian free-to-air television channel owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and part of its ABC Television network. The channel broadcasts a range of general entertainment programming. Between the hours of 5am and 7.30pm daily, the channel's bandwidth is used for the ABC Kids channel for young children. Rick Kalowski (born 9 May 1972) is an Australian television and film writer/producer, best known for his work on the high-rating but controversial ABC1 sitcom '' At Home with Julia''. Before becoming a writer, Kalowski spent several years working as a lawyer, including clerking for Justice Mary Gaudron at the High Court of Australia. SoHo was an Australian pay television channel. Originally launched as FX in 1995 and oriented towards classic programming, it was rebranded as W. and shifted its focus to women's programming on 1 November 2003. Jacquelin Perske is an Australian screenwriter and producer who is best known as co-creator of the television series, ''Love My Way'' and for her screenplay for '' The Cry.''
