2011 AAA 400
The 2011 AAA 400 was a NASCAR Cup Series stock car race that was held on October 2, 2011, at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Delaware. Contested 400 laps on the 1.000-mile (1.609 km) concrete oval, it was the 29th race of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season, as well as the third race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. The race was won by Kurt Busch for the Penske Racing team. Jimmie Johnson finished second, and Carl Edwards clinched third. A series of racing accidents in addition to a brief bout of rain contributed to the vast amount of cautions that this race endured. While the average green flag run was approximately 32 laps, 11% of the race was run under a caution flag. Dover International Speedway
Dover Motor Speedway (formerly Dover Downs International Speedway and later Dover International Speedway) is a race track in Dover, Delaware. The track has hosted at least one NASCAR Cup Series race each year since 1969, including two per year from 1971 to 2020. In addition to NASCAR, the track also hosted USAC and the Indy Racing League. The track features one layout, a concrete oval, with 24° banking in the turns and 9° banking on the straights. The speedway is owned and operated by Speedway Motorsports. The track, nicknamed "The Monster Mile", was built in 1969 by Melvin Joseph of Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company, Inc., with an asphalt surface, but was replaced with concrete in 1995. Joseph Andrew Petree III (born August 15, 1958), is a former NASCAR crew chief, driver, team owner, and broadcaster who has worked as the rules analyst for ''Fox NASCAR'' and the Vice President of Competition at Richard Childress Racing. After racing for years at local short tracks (most notably Hickory Motor Speedway), Petree became part owner of the No. 32 Busch Series car for Dale Jarrett. The 2011 Hollywood Casino 400 was a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stock car race held on October 9, 2011 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. Contested over 267 laps (but extended due to a Green-white-checker finish) on the 1.5-mile (2.4 km) asphalt quad-oval, it was the thirtieth race of the 2011 Sprint Cup Series season, as well as the fourth race in the ten-race Chase for the Sprint Cup, which ends the season. Carl Michael Edwards II (born August 15, 1979) is an American former professional stock car racing driver. He last competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, driving the No. 19 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing. Prior to that, he drove the No. 99 Ford Fusion for Roush Fenway Racing. The NASCAR playoffs is a championship playoff system used in NASCAR's three national series. The system was founded as 'The Chase for the Championship' on January 21, 2004, and was used exclusively in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2004 to 2015. Since 2016, NASCAR has also used the playoff system in the Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. The NASCAR Cup Series version of the playoff system is often called the Chase for the Cup, and includes sixteen drivers that compete for the championship in the final ten races of the Cup Series. The first nine races are divided into three rounds, with four participants being eliminated after each round. The Xfinity Series Chase format is competed over seven races with twelve drivers. The 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series was the 63rd season of professional stock car racing in the United States and the 40th modern-era Cup series season. The season included 36 races and two exhibition races, beginning with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway and ending with the Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The final ten races were known as 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup. The 2011 season is considered by many to be one of the greatest and most exciting seasons in Cup Series history. The NASCAR Cup Series is the top racing series of the NASCAR, National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Dale Arnold Jarrett (born November 26, 1956) is a former American race car driver and current commentator for NBC. He is best known for winning the Daytona 500 three times (in 1993, 1996, and 2000) and winning the NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship in 1999.
