The 2010–11 season is Real Sociedad's 65th season in La Liga. After spending 3 seasons in the second tier of Spanish football the Basque club obtained promotion by topping the table in 2010. Season summary In the 2010–11 season, Real Sociedad played in the top division of Spanish football for the first time since being relegated in 2007. Some additions were made to the squad that had obtained promotion. Among them Joseba Llorente stood out, having cost €2.5 million. The season started with a home victory against Villarreal. During the first half of the season, the club got an unexpectedly high point tally. Relegation looked extremely unlikely and optimism reigned. Real Sociedad de Fútbol, S.A.D., more commonly referred to as Real Sociedad (; ''Royal Society''), La Real in Spanish, Erreala in Basque, is a Spanish professional sports club in the city of San Sebastián, Basque Country, founded on 7 September 1909. It plays its home matches at the Anoeta Stadium. Real Sociedad won the Liga title in 1980–81 and 1981–82, and finished runner-up in 1979–80, 1987–88, and 2002–03. Mikel González de Martín Martínez (born 24 September 1985) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Cypriot club AEK Larnaca FC as a central defender. He spent most of his professional career with Real Sociedad, playing 299 competitive games and scoring six goals. Borja Viguera Manzanares (born 26 March 1987) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a striker. He achieved totals of 51 games and three goals in La Liga for Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao and Sporting de Gijón. David Zurutuza
David Zurutuza Veillet (born 19 July 1986) is a Spanish former footballer who played as a central midfielder. He spent his entire professional career contracted to Real Sociedad, with whom he made 303 competitive appearances over 12 seasons, and was also loaned to Eibar in the Segunda División. Vadim Sergeievich Demidov (; born 10 October 1986) is a Norwegian retired international footballer who played as a central defender. Early life Demidov was born in Riga, Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, Soviet Union, and is of Russian ethnicity. Ion Ansotegi Gorostola (born 13 July 1982) is a Spanish former footballer who played as a central defender. He spent most of his professional career with Real Sociedad after signing with the club at the age of 21, going on to appear in 227 official matches during 11 seasons. 124 of those appearances came in La Liga (six goals scored).
