2010–11 Georgetown Hoyas Men's Basketball Team
The 2010–11 Georgetown Hoyas men's basketball team represented Georgetown University in the 2010–2011 NCAA Division I basketball season. In November, the team played in and won the Charleston Classic tournament. During the February 23 game against the Cincinnati Bearcats, senior Chris Wright injured his hand, and later had surgery that kept him out of the final conference games. Without him, the Hoyas lost in their first game in the 2011 Big East men's basketball tournament. The team ultimately received an at-large invitation as a 6 seed in the 2011 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, where they lost in the second round to VCU. Big East Conference (1979–2013)
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history, while its shorter (1991 to 2013) football program, created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" (their football programs only) into the conference, resulted in two national championships. In basketball, Big East teams made 18 Final Four appearances and won 7 NCAA championships as Big East members through 2013 (UConn with three, Georgetown, Syracuse, Louisville and Villanova with one each). The center (C), or the centre, also known as the five or the pivot, is one of the five Basketball position, positions in a regulation basketball game. Walk-on (sports)
A walk-on, in American and Canadian college athletics, is an athlete who becomes part of a team without being recruited and awarded an athletic scholarship. A team's walk-on players are normally the weakest players and relegated to the scout team, and may not even be placed on the official depth chart or traveling team, while the scholarship players are the team's main players. However, a walk-on player occasionally becomes a noted member of the team. Point Guard
The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. Markel Starks (born February 21, 1991) is an American professional basketball for Darüşşafaka of the Turkish Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL). Born in Accokeek, Maryland, he played for Georgetown Prep before enrolling at Georgetown University and playing for the Hoyas. Henry Sims (born March 27, 1990) is an American professional basketball player for Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus of the Korean Basketball League (KBL). He played college basketball for Georgetown University. High school career Sims played for Mt. Saint Joseph High averaging 19 points and 13 rebounds as a senior. He led his team to three BCL and MIAA Championships and earned Player of the Year and All Metro honors. Jerrelle Benimon
Jerrelle Benimon (born August 1, 1991) is an American former professional basketball player. In college, he was the 2012–13 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year as a redshirt junior after leading the Towson Tigers to the greatest single-season turnaround in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I history; the Tigers finished with a 1–31 record in 2011–12 before completing an 18–13 season the following year. Vincent Laron "Vee" Sanford II (born December 5, 1990) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Victoria Libertas Pesaro of the Lega Basket Serie A. He played college basketball for Georgetown and Dayton. He began his professional career in 2016 with s.Oliver Würzburg.
