Exeter () is a city in Devon, South West England. It is situated on the River Exe, approximately northeast of Plymouth and southwest of Bristol. In Roman Britain, Exeter was established as the base of Legio II Augusta under the personal command of Vespasian. Exeter became a religious centre in the Middle Ages. Exeter Cathedral, founded in the mid 11th century, became Anglican in the 16th-century English Reformation. Exeter became an affluent centre for the wool trade, although by the First World War the city was in decline. Scot Andrew Bennett (born 30 November 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender or midfielder for club Newport County. Career Exeter City Bennett was born in Newquay, Cornwall and started his career with Exeter City's youth system. He made his first-team debut for Exeter as a substitute in the 74th minute of a 1–0 home victory over Swindon Town in League One on 29 March 2011. Elliott Thomas Frear (born 11 September 1990) is an English professional footballer, who plays for National League South side Bath City, as a winger. Career Frear signed for Exeter City at the age of 11 and progressed through the club's Centre of Excellence sides, but after three seasons he was released from the club's youth system. Having spent two seasons playing local club football Frear was invited to a trial with Exeter in partnership with Exeter College and was offered a two-year placement on the College Football Academy programme. Liam Sercombe
Liam Michael Sercombe (born 25 April 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Cheltenham Town. Career Exeter City Sercombe came through the youth ranks at Exeter City, and signed a full professional contract with the club in June 2007. Sercombe made a number of appearances at reserve team level before making his debut on 11 August 2007 against Altrincham in the Conference National, coming on after just 11 minutes to replace the injured Andy Taylor. Exeter went on to win the match 4–1. Sercombe made seven appearances that season, helping Exeter win promotion to League Two after a five-year absence, as they beat Torquay United in the play-off semi-finals, and then Cambridge United 1–0 in the final at Wembley Stadium. Jake Samuel Thomson (born 12 May 1989) is an English footballer who plays as a midfielder for AFC Stoneham. Before playing in non-league football, Thomson played in the Championship for Southampton. A youth international footballer for England, he played at senior international level for Trinidad and Tobago. Richard James Logan (born 4 January 1982) is an English former footballer. Career Logan, a striker, began his career as a trainee with Championship side Ipswich Town. Ben Charles Watson (born 6 December 1985) is an English footballer, who is manager for Crediton United FC . He is also currently a coach at League 2 side Exeter City's community trust and holds his B-License coaching qualification. The striker started his career with Brighton before a few loan moves before signing for Bognor Regis permanently in 2004. He later moved onto Grays Athletic where he impressed and earned a move to then Conference side Exeter City after catching the eye of manager Paul Tisdale. William Kenneth Jones (born 26 June 1983) is an English football defender who plays for Bearsted. His league debut came for Orient, in January 2001, when he was just 17. Over the next four seasons he played 79 games for the club, moving to Kidderminster Harriers in January 2005. Robert William Edwards (born 1 January 1973 in Kendal, Westmorland) is a professional football manager and former player. He played for Football League One side Exeter City before retiring in May 2011, and is a Welsh international, being capped on four occasions.
