2010 Women's Professional Soccer Season
The 2010 Women's Professional Soccer season was the second season for the WPS, the top level professional women's soccer league in the United States. Regular season champion FC Gold Pride won the WPS Championship on September 26 with a 4-0 victory over the Philadelphia Independence. Changes from the 2009 season *Two franchises, based in Philadelphia, and Atlanta, joined the league. * A potential Dallas franchise is pending upon finding a site at which to play, and WPS is constantly considering other expansion possibilities as well, such as Seattle. *The Los Angeles Sol did not return, as that franchise was terminated January 28, 2010 after Anschutz Entertainment Group returned their franchise rights and a buyer was not found. *The number of games in the regular season increased from 20 to 24. *On May 27, financial problems caused the Saint Louis Athletica to fold. 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup
The 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup was the 5th edition of the tournament. It was held in Germany, who will also host the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup a year later from 13 July to 1 August 2010. The 2010 South American Women's Football Championship ( es, Campeonato Sudamericano Femenino – Copa América de Selecciones) was the sixth edition of the South American Women's Football Championship, and acted as a qualifier for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2012 Summer Olympics. The tournament was held in Ecuador from 4 November to 21 November 2010, after originally being scheduled for 28 October to 14 November 2010. The top two teams from the final group, Brazil and Colombia, qualified for the 2011 Women's World Cup and the 2012 Summer Olympics. 2010 Algarve Cup
The 2010 Algarve Cup was the seventeenth edition of the Algarve Cup, an invitational women's football tournament held annually in Portugal. It took place between 24 February and 3 March 2010. It was won by the United States who defeated World and European champions Germany 3–2 in the final to extend their record of Algarve titles to seven. Sweden defeated China, 2-0, in the third prize game. Format The twelve invited teams were split into three groups that played a round-robin tournament. The main eight entrants were identical to the previous year. Group C featured two different sides with Romania and the Faroe Islands replacing Poland and Wales. Groups A and B, containing the strongest ranked teams, were the only ones in contention to win the title. 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup
The 2010 AFF Championship, sponsored by Suzuki and P&G and officially known as the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, was the 8th edition of the AFF Championship, took place on 1–29 December 2010. Indonesia and Vietnam hosted the group stage from 1 to 8 December. Two-legged home-and-away semi-finals and finals were held between 15 and 29 December 2010. Vietnam were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Malaysia in the semi-finals. Indonesia appeared in their fourth final while the Philippines qualified for the semi-finals for the first time under the management of Simon McMenemy. Malaysia subsequently won their first ever title since they first appeared in the final in the inaugural edition, beating Indonesia 4–2 on aggregate in the finals. 2010 African Cup Of Nations
The 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, also known as the Orange Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship reasons, was the 27th Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial football championship of Africa ( CAF). It was held in Angola, where it began on 10 January 2010 and concluded on 31 January. In the tournament, the hosts Angola were to be joined by 15 nations who advanced from the qualification process that began in October 2007 and involved 53 African national teams. The withdrawal of Togo after a terrorist attack on their bus upon arriving for the tournament reduced the number of participating nations to 15. A total of 29 games were played, instead of the scheduled 32 games. Egypt won the tournament, their seventh ACN title and an unprecedented third in a row, beating Ghana 1–0 in the final. 2010 IBSA World Blind Football Championship
The 2010 IBSA World Blind Football Championship is a blind football tournament and the fifth World Blind Football Championship. The competition was staged in the United Kingdom between 14 August and 22 August 2010, and involved ten teams of visually impaired players from around the world competing to be crowned world champion. It was won for the third time by Brazil, who defeated Spain 2–0 in the final. The tournament The championships, which took place at the Royal National College for the Blind in Hereford, was the first to have been held in the United Kingdom. Sporting Kansas City, often shortened to Sporting KC, is an American men's professional soccer club based in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The Western New York Flash (WNY Flash) was an American soccer club based in Elma, New York that competed in the United Women's Soccer league. They have won league championships in four different leagues: the USL W-League in 2010, Women's Professional Soccer in 2011, Women's Premier Soccer League Elite in 2012, and the National Women's Soccer League in 2016.
