2010 World's Strongest Man
The 2010 World's Strongest Man was the 33rd edition of World's Strongest Man held at Sun City, North West, Sun City, South Africa from Sept. 15–22. Zydrunas Savickas won his second title, Brian Shaw (strongman), Brian Shaw placed second moving up 1 spots from 3rd place the previous year, and Mikhail Koklyaev placed third. In the finals, Zydrunas Savickas set a new world record in the World Log Lift Championships, Giant Wooden Log Lift for Max Weight event by lifting . Sun City, North West
Sun City is a luxury resort and casino, situated in the North West Province of South Africa. It is located between the Elands River and the Pilanesberg, about 140 km northwest of Johannesburg, near the city of Rustenburg. The complex borders the Pilanesberg National Park. The International Federation of Strength Athletes (IFSA or IFSA Strongman) was an international governing body for strongman competition. IFSA operated from 1995-2007 and was based in Glasgow, Scotland. Nick Best
Nick Best (born November 3, 1968) is an American professional strongman competitor and world champion powerlifter. Powerlifting Prior to competing in strongman, Best won the USAPL National Powerlifting Championships in the 125 kg class in 1996 and 1997, as well as the WDFPF World Powerlifting Championships in 1996. Strongman Best holds the International Federation of Strength Athletes world record for the 125 kg, 75 m Farmer's Walk, with a time of 47.3 seconds. He won the All-American Strongman Challenge in 2010, his career best win. This victory qualified him for the 2010 Arnold Strongman Classic, he finished ninth overall in that contest. The Fortissimus is a defunct event in strength athletics. The name means "the mightiest" and was a multi-event challenge at the end of which the winner is crowned as the "Strongest Man on Earth". Derek Poundstone
Derek Poundstone (born September 28, 1981) is an American former professional strongman athlete from Woodbridge, Connecticut who placed runner-up at the 2008 World's Strongest Man. Derek Poundstone is also a police Sergeant for the Naugatuck, Connecticut Police Department and is the former owner and landlord of an apartment complex and gym. Strength sports Poundstone began by competing in powerlifting and progressed to become the Connecticut State Champion. He started competing in strongman after finding an advertisement for a contest on the back of a powerlifting flyer. After earning his Professional Strongman card from the ASC (American Strongman Corporation), Poundstone took two years off competing to enter the Police Academy and become a police officer.
