2010 New England Revolution Season
The 2010 New England Revolution season is the fifteenth season of the team's existence. The regular season began on March 27, 2010 with a 1–0 loss to the LA Galaxy and ended on October 21 with a 2–0 loss at the New York Red Bulls. After their 2–2 draw with the Columbus Crew on September 25, the Revs were officially eliminated from playoff contention. It was the first time the Revs failed to qualify for the playoffs since Steve Nicol became coach in 2002. Background The Revs finished the 2009 season third in the Eastern Conference and seventh overall, qualifying for the playoffs as a wild card. After defeating the Chicago Fire 2–1 in the first leg of their playoff series, they lost the second leg 2–0 and failed to advance. The New England Revolution is an American professional soccer club based in the Greater Boston area that competes in Major League Soccer (MLS), in the Eastern Conference of the league. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inaugural season. The club is owned by Robert Kraft, who also owns the New England Patriots along with his son, Jonathan Kraft. The name "Revolution" refers to the New England region's significant involvement in the American Revolution that took place from 1775 to 1783. Thomas Wells Thompson (born November 25, 1983 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is a retired American soccer player who last played as a midfielder for Carolina RailHawks in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Career High school and College Thompson attended R.J. Reynolds High School, Forsyth Country Day School (aka, FCDS), and the Family Foundation School. He earned an All-North Carolina first team selection as a junior and senior as well as an all-conference and all-region selection. Marvin Antonio Chávez (born November 3, 1983 in La Ceiba) is a Honduran footballer who played as a midfielder, most recently for C.D. Marathón in the Liga Nacional. Atiba Erasto Harris (born 9 January 1985) is a Kittitian football administrator and former professional footballer. He captained the Saint Kitts and Nevis national team. Preston Burpo (born September 26, 1972 in Bethesda, Maryland) is a retired American soccer player who is currently the goalkeeper coach for Austin FC in Major League Soccer. College Burpo played collegiate soccer at Southern New Hampshire University from 1992 to 1995. During his career there he earned a goals against average of 1.19 and recorded 38 shutouts.
