2010 Michigan Gubernatorial Election
The 2010 Michigan gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2010. Incumbent Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm was prohibited by the Michigan Constitution, state's Constitution from seeking a third term. This resulted in a large pool of candidates which was whittled down, when the May 11 filing deadline passed, to two Democrats and five Republican Party (United States), Republicans. Both the ''Cook Political Report'' and the non-partisan ''Rothenberg Political Report'' rated the election as leaning Republican. The Republican primary race was highly competitive; both local and national polling reported Congressman Peter Hoekstra, state Attorney General Mike Cox (U.S. politician), Mike Cox, and businessman Rick Snyder as being front-runners for the Republican Party nomination. Rick Snyder
Richard Dale Snyder (born August 19, 1958) is an American business executive, venture capitalist, attorney, accountant, and politician who served as the 48th governor of Michigan from 2011 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, Snyder previously served as the chairman of the board of Gateway from 2005 to 2007. He co-founded Ardesta, LLC, a venture capital firm, and HealthMedia, Inc., a digital health coaching company, both based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Snyder was considered a possible Republican Party candidate for Vice President of the United States in 2012, although ultimately Paul Ryan was selected. On February 3, 2014, Snyder announced his candidacy for re-election as Governor of Michigan in 2014. Mike Bouchard
Michael J. Bouchard is an American politician who has served as Sheriff of Oakland County, Michigan since 1999. A member of the Republican Party, Bouchard previously served in the Michigan State Senate from 1991 to 1999, and as the Senate Majority Leader from 1998 to 1999. He was the unsuccessful Republican nominee for United States Senate in 2006, losing to incumbent Debbie Stabenow. Bouchard is of French and Syrian Lebanese descent. In 2016, he was named Sheriff of the Year by the National Sheriffs' Association. Career Bouchard was born in Flint, Michigan.
