2010 Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne
The 63rd edition of Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne was won by Dutch rider Bobby Traksel. The race was affected by heavy rainfall from start to finish. Only 26 riders finished. Race report The race was run in extreme weather, as the remnants of cyclone Xynthia hit Belgium, with strong winds and torrential rain causing the peloton to shatter early. Many abandoned the race before half-course, including favourites Tom Boonen and Filippo Pozzato. The route had to be shortened by 20 km because a fallen tree obstructed the road up the Côte de Trieu. Bobby Traksel
Bobbie Traksel (born 3 November 1981 in Tiel) is a Dutch former professional racing cyclist. In 2000, Traksel showed considerable promise by winning the Under-23 version of the Tour of Flanders and turned professional in 2001 with . In 2002, Traksel's surprise win at the Veenendaal–Veenendaal showed his speed and bicycle smarts. But Traksel's achievements in 2008, highlighted by winning the Driedaagse van West-Vlaanderen garnered him wider respect in the cycling community. In 2010 he won Kuurne–Brussels–Kuurne after a long breakaway. The race was heavily influenced by the weather. Many favourites retired from the race due to the cold weather, rain and wind. History In 1995 Australian Bill Mitchell, a keen cyclist and professor of economics at the University of Newcastle, created the website titled "Bill’s Cycling Racing Results and News" after finding there was a need for fast-breaking news and race results in English-speaking countries. In 1999 Sydney-based publishing company Knapp Communications purchased the website from Mitchell, and in July 2007 they sold it to British publisher Future plc for £2.2m. Thor Hushovd (born 18 January 1978) is a Norwegian former professional road bicycle racer. He is known for sprinting and time trialing; Hushovd is a three-time Norwegian national road race champion (2004, 2010, 2013), and was the winner of the 2010 World Road Race Championships. He was the first Norwegian to lead the Tour de France, and first Scandinavian to win the road race in cycling world road championship. Dominique Rollin (born 29 October 1982) is a Canadian former professional cyclist. Born in Boucherville, Quebec, Rollin began his professional career in 2001 with the team Sympatico High Speed-Jet Fuel Coffee and again the following year, 2002 with Sympatico Edition Haute Vitese. He then spent three years in France racing as an elite amateur under director-sportif Guy Gallopin for the Roubaix team. Hayden Roulston (born 10 January 1981, in Ashburton) is a former New Zealand professional racing cyclist. He won the silver medal in the men's 4000 m individual pursuit and a bronze medal in the men's 4000 m team pursuit at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Côte De Trieu
The Côte de Trieu ''(in French)'' or Knokteberg ''(in Dutch)'' is a hill in the municipality of Mont-de-l'Enclus, in the Belgian province of Hainaut. The road of the Côte de Trieu is on the south side of the Kluisberg, one of the hill formations in the Flemish Ardennes. The top of the hill, at 141 m above sea level, marks the border between Mont-de-l'Enclus and Kluisbergen, also the border between Wallonia and Flanders. The climb takes its French name after the hamlet of Trieu, at the southern foot of the hill. Trieu is part of the village of Russeignies, which, in turn, is part of the municipality of Mont-de-l'Enclus, in the north of the province of Hainaut. The climb starts with a gentle slope before gradually steepening to a maximum gradient of 13 % towards the top. With a length of 1,100 metres, it is one of the longer climbs of the region.
