2010 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2010 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 20 and 21 March 2010 at the Stade Fernand Fournier in Arles, France. It was the tenth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and it was organised by the European Athletics Association and the Fédération française d'athlétisme (French athletics federation). The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. Andrei Mikhnevich of Belarus was the original winner of the shot put (and a frequent world medallist during the period). In 2013 all his results from August 2005 onwards were annulled after a retest of his doping sample from the 2005 World Championships in Athletics proved to be positive, resulting in a lifetime ban for the athlete. 2009 European Cup Winter Throwing
The 2009 European Cup Winter Throwing was held on 14 and 15 March at the Estadio de Los Realejos in Tenerife, Spain. It was the ninth edition of the athletics competition for throwing events and was organised by the European Athletics Association and the Real Federación Española de Atletismo (Spanish athletics federation). The competition featured men's and women's contests in shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and hammer throw. In addition to the senior competitions, there were also under-23 events for younger athletes. A total of 226 athletes from 29 nations entered the competition. It was the first time that Spain hosted the competition. On the first day of competition, Anita Włodarczyk had a world-leading and personal best mark of 75.05 metres to win the women's hammer throw. 2005 World Championships In Athletics
The 10th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), were held in the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland (6 August 2005 – 14 August 2005), the site of the first IAAF World Championships in 1983. One theme of the 2005 championships was paralympic events, some of which were included as exhibition events. Much of the event was played in extremely heavy rainfall. Background Bidding The original winning bid for the competition was for London but the cost to build the required stadium at Picketts Lock and host the event was deemed too expensive by the government. UK Athletics suggested to move the host city to Sheffield (using Don Valley Stadium), but the IAAF stated that having London as the host city was central to their winning the bid. Yury Shayunou ( be, Юры Шаюноў; born October 10, 1987) is a Belarusian hammer thrower, coached by his father Victor Shayunou. Yury Shayunou has a personal best of 80.72 meters with the 7.26 kg (or 16 lbs) implement, achieved on July 6, 2009 in Minsk at the ''Romuald Klim Trophy''. He has an orthodox countering technique and relies on his controlled throwing, instead of overpowering the hammer with pure strength. He is therefore an efficient and reliable type of thrower, with a high lowest level in comparison to other hammer throwers of the same calibre. Nicola Vizzoni
Nicola Vizzoni (born 4 November 1973 in Pietrasanta, Province of Lucca) is a male hammer thrower from Italy. He won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics and ten years later at the 2010 European Athletics Championships. His personal best throw is 80.50 metres, achieved in July 2001 in Formia. He has won 19 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze) at the International athletics competitions. Biography He made his first appearance at the World Championships in Athletics in 1997 but he did not make the final. In 1999 he finished seventh in the hammer throw final and the next year he took the silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He just missed out on the podium at the 2001 World Championships in Athletics, finishing fourth, but he gained regional honours with a gold at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and also won gold at the Summer Universiade. Nadzeya Astapchuk ( be, Надзея Мікалаеўна Астапчук, ''Nadzeya Mikalayeuna Astapchuk''; russian: Надежда Остапчук, ''Nadezhda Ostapchuk;'' born October 28, 1980) is a Belarusian shot putter. She briefly was designated the Olympic Champion in 2012, but was subsequently stripped of the title for failing a drug test and the gold medal was awarded to New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams. She was World Champion in 2005, but in March 2013, the IAAF reported that her drug test sample from that event had been retested and found to be positive. 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics was held between 12 and 14 March at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar. The championships was the first of six IAAF World Athletics Series events to take place in 2010. Bidding and organisation The IAAF announced on March 25, 2007, at an IAAF Council meeting in Mombasa, Kenya that it had received bids from Turkey and Qatar to host the championships. Mariya Vasiliyevna Abakumova (russian: Мария Васильевна Абакумова; born 15 January 1986) is a Russian former track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. Career Abakumova discovered her love for athletics and throwing through her coach Irina Vladimirovna Kamarova. Her parents were also active in athletics and served as role models. Abakumova is a two-time Olympian; she competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. In 2008 she initially won silver. In 2012 she initially finished tenth. Ilya Yevgenyevich Korotkov (russian: Илья Евгеньевич Коротков; born 6 December 1983) is a Russian javelin thrower. He represented Russia at the Olympics at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and finished seventh in the final.
