2010 Canoe Slalom World Cup
The 2010 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 5 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 23rd edition and it marked the first time that women competed for the single canoe world cup points and title. The series consisted of 2 continental championships (Oceania and Asia) which were open to all countries and 3 world cup races. The athletes gained points for their results in the three world cup races plus their best result from any of the two continental championships. Calendar Final standings The winner of each race was awarded 60 points. Points for lower places differed from one category to another. Every participant was guaranteed at least 2 points for participation and 5 points for qualifying for the semifinal run. Canoe Slalom World Cup
The ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup is an annual series of races in canoe slalom held under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. It has been held since 1988 in four canoe and kayak disciplines for men and women. The four original disciplines were men's single canoe (C1), men's double canoe (C2), men's kayak (K1) and women's kayak. A women's single canoe discipline (C1) has been added to the world cup in 2010. The men's C2 event was removed from the world cup series in 2018 and it was replaced by the mixed C2 event. 2018 was also the first time that world cup points were awarded for the extreme K1 event. Competition format The world cup is a series of individual races usually taking place during the summer months of June, July and August. The athlete (or boat) that accumulates the highest number of points from all world cup races in the given discipline becomes the overall world cup champion. Tony Estanguet
Tony Estanguet (born 6 May 1978 in Pau, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Pau) is a French Canoe slalom, slalom canoeist and a three-time Olympic champion in C1. He competed at the international level from 1994 to 2012. Racing career Estanguet won three Olympic gold medals in the C1 event in 2000 Summer Olympics, 2000, 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012. At the 2004 games in Athens he won the gold medal after a late judges decision to award a 2-second penalty to Michal Martikán. Estanguet was the flag-bearer for France at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics opening ceremony. He finished in the 9th position (out of 12 competitors; only the first eight would qualify for the final) in the semi-finals of the C1 event and was thus eliminated from the final. Pavol Hochschorner
Pavol Hochschorner (born 7 September 1979) is a retired Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1996 to 2017. Competing together with his twin brother Peter Hochschorner, they are the most successful C2 paddlers in the history of canoe slalom. They retired from canoe slalom in 2018 after the C2 event was discontinued and subsequently switched to wildwater canoeing. They retired from wildwater canoeing after the 2021 World Championships in their hometown Bratislava. Hochschorner won three Olympic gold medals in the C2 event, in 2000, 2004 and 2008 and one bronze medal in 2012. Peter Škantár (born 20 July 1982) is a retired Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1998 to 2018, along with his cousin Ladislav Škantár in the C2 class. They retired from canoe slalom in 2018 after the C2 event was discontinued and subsequently switched to wildwater canoeing. They announced retirement from wildwater canoeing during the 2021 World Championships in their hometown Bratislava where they didn't start due to Ladislav's injury. Mallory Franklin (born 19 June 1994) is a British slalom canoeist who has competed internationally since 2009. She competes in both Kayak (K1/seated double-blade paddle) and Canadian Canoe (C1/kneeling single-blade paddle) classes, as well as the Extreme Canoe (XC) discipline. Rosalyn "Ros" Lawrence (born 12 June 1989) is an Australian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. She also competes in wildwater and creeking events.
