2010 Bahia Gubernatorial Election
The 2010 Bahia gubernatorial election was held on October 3 as part of the general elections in Brazil. In this election, Bahian citizens eligible to vote decided incumbent Governor Jaques Wagner, of the center-left Workers' Party, should receive a new four-year term. His main challengers were former Governor Paulo Souto, of the right wing Democrats, and Minister for National Integration Geddel Vieira Lima, of centrist Brazilian Democratic Movement Party. The Democrats ( pt, Democratas, DEM) was a centre-right political party in Brazil that merged with the Social Liberal Party to found the Brazil Union in 2021. 2010 Brazilian Gubernatorial Elections
The 2010 Brazilian gubernatorial elections were held on Sunday, October 3, as part of the country's general election. In these elections, all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District governorships were up for election. When none of the candidates received more than a half of the valid votes in a given state, a run-off was held on October 24, 2010 between the two candidates with the most votes. According to the Federal Constitution, Governors are elected directly to a four-year term, with a limit of two terms. Eleven governors were prohibited from seeking re-election. Before election, ten of the total seats were held by the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB), followed by five held by the Workers' Party (PT) and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) each. Grupo Folha
Grupo Folha is the second largest Brazilian media conglomerate, after Grupo Globo. It was founded by Octávio Frias (1912–2007) and led by his son Luiz Frias since 1992. Brazilian Democratic Movement Party
The Brazilian Democratic Movement ( pt, Movimento Democrático Brasileiro, MDB) is a Brazilian political party. Geddel Vieira Lima (born 18 March 1959) is a Brazilian politician who served in the Cabinet of Brazil under President Michel Temer until his resignation on 25 November 2016, amid accusations that he and the President had pressured Minister of Culture Marcelo Calero to approve a real estate project to build a 30-floor apartment building in a historic district of Ladeira da Barra. Vieira Lima, who as Temer's Minister of Government acted as liaison between the executive and legislative branches, was implicated in Operation Cui Bono, an investigation into Caixa Econômica Federal, a state-owned bank of which he was vice-president in the Dilma Rousseff government. Jaques Wagner
Jaques Wagner (born 16 March 1951) is a Brazilian politician who was Governor of Bahia from 2007 to 2015 and Minister of Defence in 2015. Wagner, whose parents were Jewish immigrants from Poland, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1951. In his youth, he was a member of the Labor Zionist youth organization Habonim Dror. He was a founding member of the Workers' Party (PT), as well as the Central Única dos Trabalhadores (CUT), a union which has organized more than seven million members. The Workers' Party ( pt-BR, Partido dos Trabalhadores, PT) is a centre-left to left-wing political party in Brazil.
