2010 Australia Day Honours
The 2010 Australia Day Honours are appointments to various orders and honours to recognise and reward good works by Australian citizens. The list was announced on 26 January 2010 by the Governor General of Australia, Quentin Bryce. The Australia Day Honours are the first of the two major annual honours lists, the first announced to coincide with Australia Day (26 January), with the other being the Queen's Birthday Honours, which are announced on the second Monday in June. † indicates an award given posthumously. Australian Honours System
The Australian honours and awards system refers to all Order (distinction), orders, decorations, and medals, as instituted by letters patent from the Monarchy of Australia, Monarch of Australia and countersigned by the Australian prime minister at the time, that have been progressively introduced since 14 February 1975. The Australian honours and awards system excludes all state and local government, and private, issued awards and medals (although a few can be recognised in the Australian Honours Order of Wearing, order of wearing, like those in the Order of Saint John (chartered 1888), Order of St John). Honours and awards have been present in Australia since pre-Federation of Australia, Federation, primarily from the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, Imperial honours and awards system. Bernard Bongiorno
Bernard Daniel Bongiorno is an Australian professor who is a former Court of Appeal justice at the Supreme Court of Victoria in Australia. He was formerly a justice of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court, where he served between 2000 and 2009. Prior to that he served as the Victorian Director of Public Prosecutions, resigning in 1994. Bongiorno grew up in Geelong. His ancestors emigrated to Australia from the Aeolian Islands. Bongiorno was involved with the Italian welfare society Co.as.it., serving as president. In 1999, the Italian government recognised his contribution to the Italian community in Victoria by appointing him a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy. Paul O'Sullivan (diplomat)
Paul Thomas O'Sullivan , (born 3 February 1948) is an Australian diplomat and public servant who served as Australia's High Commissioner to New Zealand and as former Director-General of Security. O'Sullivan accepted a role as a political advisor for the Abbott government in 2013. John McMillan (public Servant)
Professor John Denison McMillan (born September 17, 1949) was the Acting New South Wales Ombudsman. Early life and education McMillan was born in September 17, 1949. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Australian National University in 1970 and later he pursued a law degree from the same university. Paul Little (Australian Businessman)
Paul Alexander Little (born 1947) is an Australian businessman and philanthropist. Little served as the managing director of Toll Holdings, an Australasian integrated logistics provider from 1985 until 2011 and retired from that position after 26 years service. Peter L'Estrange
Peter John L'Estrange, AO is an Australian Jesuit priest and historian. He was the Master of Campion Hall at the University of Oxford in England from 2006 to 2008. Early life and education Pierre L'Estrange was educated at St Aloysius' College, Sydney. The Reverend
The Reverend is an style (manner of address), honorific style most often placed before the names of Christian clergy and Minister of religion, ministers. There are sometimes differences in the way the style is used in different countries and church traditions. Hieu Van Le
Hieu Van Le, ( vi, Lê Văn Hiếu; born 1 January 1954) was the 35th governor of South Australia, in office from 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2021. He served as the state's lieutenant-governor from 2007 to 2014. He also served as chair of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission (SAMEAC) from 2006 to 2009. Professor Wendy Elizabeth Hoy AO is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science (FAA), the Director of the Centre for Chronic Disease at the University of Queensland, Australia, and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2010 and elected as a member of the Australian Academy of Science in 2015. Stephen Gumley
Stephen John Gumley, AO (born 26 October 1956) was the first Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Defence Materiel Organisation, serving in the role from February 2004 to July 2011.
