Anna Meares
Anna Maree Devenish Meares (born 21 September 1983) is an Australian retired track cyclist. She currently resides in Adelaide in South Australia where the Australian Institute of Sport's Track Cycling program has its headquarters at the Adelaide Super-Drome. She has been the 500 metre track time trial world champion on four occasions, and a gold medallist at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. At the 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships Meares took the gold in the keirin—her 11th world title in total, which made her the most decorated female track cyclist of all time. She was the flag-bearer and captain for the Australian team at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in keirin. Angelo Ciccone (born 7 July 1980) is an Italian amateur road and track cyclist. He has claimed four Italian national championship titles in track cycling (omnium, madison, and points race), and later represented his nation Italy in two editions of the Olympic Games (2004 and 2008). Ciccone currently races for the 2013 season with Cycling Team Friuli under his head coach Roberto Bressan. Ciccone competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, where he scored a total of forty-nine points (the victor got ninety-three) to grab the eighth spot in the men's points race. The team sprint (also sometimes known as the Olympic sprint) is a track cycling event. Despite its name, it is not a conventional cycling sprint event – it is a three-rider team time trial held over three laps of a velodrome. The current men's world record time is 41.225 seconds. Josephine Tomic (born 9 June 1989) is a former Australian track cyclist. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Team Pursuit. Personal Nicknamed Josie, Tomic was born on 9 June 1989 in Subiaco, Western Australia. She attended North Perth Primary School, Como Primary School and Perth College. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear.
