During the 2009–10 English football season, Scunthorpe United F.C. competed in the Football League Championship. Season summary Scunthorpe struggled all season on their return to the Championship, but eventually managed to survive. The goals of Gary Hooper, who was third-highest top-scorer in the Championship with 19, ahead of the likes of Charlie Adam and Andy Carroll, were crucial to the club's survival, but he left at the end of the season to join Scottish giants Celtic. His strike partner, Paul Hayes, also left, to Preston North End, making Scunthorpe's task of surviving in the Championship for a second consecutive season all the more difficult. Scunthorpe () is an Industrial city, industrial town and unparished area in the Unitary authorities of England, unitary authority of North Lincolnshire in Lincolnshire, England of which it is the main administrative centre. Scunthorpe had an estimated total population of 82,334 in 2016. A predominantly industrial town, the town is the United Kingdom's largest steel processing centre and is also known as the "Industrial Garden Town". Joe Murphy (footballer Born 1981)
Joseph Murphy (born 21 August 1981) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Tranmere Rovers. Murphy began his career with Tranmere Rovers, and has since represented eight other clubs, making over 500 appearances in the Football League and playing twice in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion in 2002. Born in Dublin, he was capped twice by the Republic of Ireland at international level in 2003 and 2010. Ben Steven May (born 10 March 1984) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. He is the fitness coach for Bromley. May began his career at Southampton's youth academy in 1998, before playing at Fulham's centre of excellence for a year. In 2000, he joined Millwall's youth set-up. Ahead of the 2002–03 season, May signed his first professional contract with the club, making his debut in August 2002. He was loaned out to Brentford, and then Colchester United, during his six-year tenure at Millwall. Martyn Paul Woolford (born 13 October 1985) is an English former professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for Frickley Athletic. He has played in the Football League for Scunthorpe United, Bristol City, Millwall, Sheffield United, Fleetwood Town and Grimsby Town. Woolford started his career in the Northern Counties East Football League Premier Division with Glasshoughton Welfare after progressing through their youth system. David Mirfin
David Matthew Mirfin (born 18 April 1985) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a centre back. Career Huddersfield Town Mirfin was born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He graduated from the Huddersfield Town Academy in the 2003–04 season and made an immediate impression, helping the team keep 16 clean sheets out of the 25 matches he appeared in that season and also scoring three goals as an emergency striker. Robert William Jones (born 3 November 1979) is an English football coach and former professional footballer. Jones played as a defender having started his career with York City, before playing as a semi-professional for Whitby Town, Northallerton Town, Spennymoor United and Gateshead, he soon moved into the Football League in 2003 with Stockport County. After a brief loan spell with Macclesfield Town, Jones joined Grimsby Town, where his performances in the 2005–06 season earned him a move to Scottish Premier League club Hibernian. Jones captained Hibs as the club won the 2007 Scottish League Cup Final, in which he scored the opening goal. Garry Kevin Langrish Thompson (born 24 November 1980) is an English football coach and former player who was last manager of Bradford (Park Avenue). Playing career Born in Kendal, Cumbria, Thompson scored Morecambe's first goal in the Conference play-off Final against Exeter City in May 2007. In January 2008, Morecambe turned down a £10,000 offer from Bradford City for Thompson. Grant Samuel McCann (born 14 April 1980) is a Northern Irish professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder in the Football League. He was most recently the manager of EFL League One club Peterborough United. Born in Belfast, McCann played in the Distillery youth system from 1995 until signing for the West Ham United Academy of Football in 1996, where he started his professional career. Cliff Byrne
Clifford "Cliff" Byrne (born 26 April 1982) is an Irish former Association football, footballer, who is currently Assistant Manager at Peterborough United F.C., Peterborough United. Byrne previously played for Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland. He took part in a UEFA 'B' coaching course in summer 2005. Kenny Milne (footballer)
Kenneth Milne (born 26 August 1979) is a Scottish former professional footballer. Career Despite his 6'3" stature, Milne actually started his career as a left winger with Heart of Midlothian whom he signed for from Rangers Boys Club in 1995. He was loaned to Cowdenbeath for the 1998–99 season before making his Hearts debut the following year.
