2009–10 FC Shakhtar Donetsk Season
The 2009–10 FC Shakhtar Donetsk season saw the club win their fifth Ukrainian Premier League. After winning the 2009 UEFA Cup, Shakhtar competed in the UEFA Super Cup for the first time, losing 1–0 to Barcelona after extra time. Shakhtar started the season in the UEFA Champions League as a result of winning the 2008–09 Premier League, but were knocked out at the third qualifying round by Poli Timișoara, resulting in them playing in the UEFA Europa League. FC Shakhtar Donetsk
Football Club Shakhtar Donetsk ( uk, Футбольний клуб «Шахтар» Донецьк , short nickname "miners") is a Ukrainian professional football club from the city of Donetsk. In 2014, due to the War in Donbass, the club was forced to move to Lviv, and had played matches in Lviv (2014–2016) and in Kharkiv (2017–2020) whilst having its office headquarters and training facilities in Kyiv. In May 2020, Shakhtar started to play home matches at NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv. Shakhtar has appeared in several European competitions and is often a participant in the UEFA Champions League. The club became the first club in independent Ukraine to win the UEFA Cup in 2009, the last year before the competition was revamped as the Europa League. Tomáš Hübschman (; born 4 September 1981) is a Czech professional footballer who plays for FK Jablonec. He can play as a centre-back or defensive midfielder and is known for his strength, speed and tight marking. Yuriy Mykolayovych Virt ( uk, Юрій Миколайович Вірт; born 4 May 1974) is a retired Ukrainian football goalkeeper and current manager of FC Veres Rivne. Career He played over 100 games for Metalurh Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League. In the beginning of 1990s he also played for number of clubs from Lviv Oblast such as FC Skala Stryi and the first FC Lviv city team. Rustam Makhmudkulovych Khudzhamov ( uk, Рустам Махмудкулович Худжамов; born 5 October 1982, in Skvyra, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union) is a Ukrainian retired football goalkeeper. 2008–09 Ukrainian Premier League
The 2008–09 Ukrainian Premier League season was the eighteenth since its establishment. The league was restructured and split off from the Professional Football League of Ukraine. It was officially named as the ''EpiCentre Championship of Ukraine in football''. Shakhtar Donetsk were the defending champions of the past season, having won their fourth league title. The season began on 16 July 2008 with a scoreless draw between Tavriya Simferopol and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. The last round of matches were played on 26 May 2009. A total of 16 teams participated in the league, 14 of which had contested in the 2007–08 season, and two of which were promoted from the Persha Liha.
