2009–10 Belgian Cup
The 2009–10 Belgian Cup (also known as ''Cofidis Cup'' because of sponsoring purposes) was the 55th season of the main knockout football competition in Belgium. It commenced on 25 July 2009 with the first matches of Round 1 and concluded with the Final on 15 May 2010. Genk were the defending champions. The competition was won by Gent. Competition format The competition consists of ten rounds. The first seven rounds are held as single-match elimination rounds. If the match remains tied after 90 minutes in the first three rounds, penalties are taken immediately. In rounds four to seven, when tied after 90 minutes first an extra time period of 30 minutes is played followed by penalties if still necessary. The quarter- and semi-finals are played as Two-legged ties, where the team winning both matches on aggregate advances. The final is played as a single match at a neutral venue. Royal Francs Borains is a football club based in Boussu, Hainaut Province, Belgium. It was founded in 1949 and its home ground is Stade Robert Urbain, which has a capacity of 6,000. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "Road (sports), away from home" wins. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. The away goals rule is most often invoked in two-legged tie, two-leg fixtures, where the initial result is determined by the aggregate score — i.e. the scores of both games are added together. Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring (), often simply known as Lierse, was a Belgian professional football club from the city of Lier in the Antwerp province. Lierse have won four championship titles and two Belgian Cups. Union Namur, commonly known as UR Namur or Union Royale Namur, is a Belgian football club from the city of Namur. It plays in the third amateur division. The media simply refer to them as "Les merles."
