The 2009 season of competitive football in Thailand. The season began on 7 March 2009 for the Thai Premier League and 21 March 2009 for the Division 1 League. The Division 1 season ended on 17 October 2009, and the Thai Premier League season ended on 18 October 2009. Football In Thailand
Football is the most popular sport in Thailand. Although the professional football leagues are new to Thai people, football was introduced to Thailand as far back as 1897. Many Thais also watch football on local and paid-cable TV. Many matches, especially those in the English FA Premier League can be watched free on local channels. Thai channels broadcast every match of the 2006 World Cup. Football in Thailand is organized by Football Association of Thailand (FAT). In 2007, Thailand co-hosted the Asian Cup 2007 with three other countries. This was the second time the event had been held in Thailand, the first being in 1972. Buriram (, , , 'city of happiness') is a town (''thesaban mueang'') in Thailand, capital of Buriram Province, about northeast of Bangkok. The town occupies ''tambon'' Nai Mueang of Mueang Buriram District. In 2012 it had a population of 27,862. History Almost a thousand years ago, the present-day Buriram was part of the Khmer Empire. Ruins from that time attest to its destruction. The most significant of them is on an extinct volcano and is protected in the Phanom Rung Historical Park. Attaphol Buspakom ( th, อรรถพล ปุษปาคม; ), nicknamed "Tak" ( th, แต๊ก; ); 1 October 1962 – 16 April 2015) was a Thai national and football coach. He was given the role at Muangthong United and Buriram United after TTM Samut Sakhon folded after the 2009 season. He played for the Thailand national football team, appearing in several FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
